Yeah, UFOs were a big deal in the 1970s. Books, movies, documentaries... The Bermuda Triangle and the "mystery of the Pyramids" and astrology and scientology and ESP and all kinds of kookie people with crazy claims like Yuri Geller. They got off drugs and onto bizarre beliefs.

I later saw an interview in which R MacLanahan read for the part of Rose initially, but felt it was too close to the part of Vivian from Maude and didn't feel she could bring anything to it, and then they asked her to walk down the hall and read for Blanche.

"Cigar-shaped" and "flying saucer" are two DIFFERENT shapes. Cigar-shaped objects are the motherships, and the saucers are the scout craft that come out of those ships. Just saying.
