The Mauer House is one of the first designs by John Lautner. Today the house is in very bad condition and for decades no pictures were made so many photos in this video are old and of low quality. Still, I wanted to make this video, because it's an interesting home that combines the style by Wright with Lautner own style. Besides the old photos, I completed the video with my own drawings and material found on the internet. To preserve the legacy of John Lautner and to enjoy the beauty of his work!

So sad to see this magnificent house deteriorated like that. The best part for me was the part of the garden inserted into the living room. It's a great house, and looks so nice to live in.

At the moment there are rumors that the house is being renovated. I don't know if that's true, but I hope it is, this house deserves a proper restoration. Many Lautner houses have garden that inserting in the livingspace, it one of his trademarks.

It's a bit heartbreaking to see a home like that in disrepair, and I agree that it would be wonderful to see a fan of his work appear with the funds necessary to bring it back "to its full glory".

My next video will be uploaded in two weeks. Itwill be about the Jacobsen & Polin Houses by Lautner (two similar houses by Lautner placed next to each other) . I do like the earlier houses by Lautner that were still influenced by Wright, so more videos about those designs. Stay tuned! :)

I must say that those 3-dimensional watercolor perspectives are VERY helpful. They afford depth and quickly align my mind much better than with a top view or mapping of some sort. Kudos to whomever you got to do them! Thank you! 🙂

The illustrations made by Mr Cornelis for this series of Lautner investigations are always enlightening, aren't they ! In this case, the detailed colored-pencil birds-eye rendering of the house was originally published in Fine Homebuilding magazine, in an issue which I no longer possess.
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel Жыл бұрын
Yes, the drawings are from Fine Homebuilding Magazine. It took the images from the internet and changed a bit them to give a better indication of the construction process. The other drawings are digitally updated and coloured by me, and are based on the orginal building plan drawings.

Yes, thank you. All the drawings are digital remakes of old drawings that I either found on the internet or requested from people. I trace the outlines of the drawings and colour them. Indeed the drawings make the house more easy to understand.

@@SuperJobbel I've never seen the drawings at 1:06. The plan at 1:13 is provocative, as it is compressed vertically, which turns the living room and bedroom rectangles into parallelograms---suggesting new possibilities, and reminding some of us of certain Wright Usonian plans ? Altogether a more-than-usually broad range of images, of this impossible-to-visit property . . .!

I think this is one of those houses that the repairs is beyond the owners financial means yet they can not part with it. Which would be a shame if that causes the house to just deteriorate away. It is a truly beautiful house.

.I did some research but there are actually a little bit more houses by John Lautner that aren't restored yet. For example Zimmerman house, Sheats appartment complex and Tolstoy are waiting for a renovation. John Lautner's own house is currently under restoration. So if you count it: around 10 homes needs to be restored yet. It takes a lot of money, and not all the owners have hat amount of money.

It makes me sad and angry to see that they are not safeguarded by authorties .. thx to Harris (previous) couple .., Kaufmann house is respectfully renovated by Radziner architects .
