I think you’re forgetting Mauga Zarya. Zarya can cleanse Mauga and she can also immediately regen her shield health with his Cardiac Overdrive. And they both compensate each others weakness. Zarya destroys characters weak against beam and Mauga against characters who give Zarya a hard time.

As a person who primarily plays rein, seeing nearly every other hero out preform him sucks to be the rein, cause no matter what you do you never win unless the enemy team is literally afk and then you might have a chance of winning and with mauga it makes this worse cause he tickles mauga cause of the lifesteal

Rein’s shield does stop mauga’s lifesteal, so if Rein is shielding a bastion mauga is screwed and must dip or die; no tank alone can really take on mauga

mauga should have shots to burn decreased, dual wield spread decreased and damage majorly decreased, so hes no longer so absurdly strong against tanks and his passives more consistent against squishies. i think.

I had a lot of succes with Reinhardt vs Mauga but it is super tedious. You can only peak him with shield and have to rely on your team to shoot him, you might do almost no damage but you win by having 4 times his mitigation.

Unfortunately I thought hog won the mauga matchup, but after playing several games myself, it clearly isn't. Only when my team help me take out support then I can deal with him

I got 21 hours on mauga so far with a 70%wr and a rein is genuinely one of the harder tanks to deal with. Mauga cannot counter pin on reaction(mauga’s wind up unlike rein’s can be charged), is a walking fridge and is gonna be moving at 3.5m/s strafing so basically impossible to not land the charge whenever you want and because rein’s faster then you it’s extremely easy to angle for a cliff or into your team. If mauga does actually counter pin he’s gonna go flying past into the enemy team before he can cancel. It’s impossible to miss a fire strike on him. Mauga’s 180dps on shield takes almost 8 seconds of nonstop shooting to break solo. If rein waits till he’s on fire to block and actually recharges shield sometimes shield should never break and mauga will never self heal and rein can completely shut out cardiac. Mauga has very little counter play to shatter. He can’t really jiggle peak and only overdrive predicting it can avoid it

Since Rein is easy to play (but hard to master) Blizzard seems to use him to develop counter tanks. If you look at the new tanks (despite Junkerqueen) they're all built to destroy Rein. For example, the Orisa rework is clearly an archetype of a Rein counter. It's weird because you dont see this for Dva, Zarya or Sigma. OW2 is tought for classical maintank players...

Dva depends if you have a good team to help you lol, cuz yeah u can defense matrix but if no one is helping then once matrix is out ur dead

Despite how easily Mauga can shred through shields akin to Bastion, bear in mind that he has to hit PLAYERS to trigger the life-steal from Cardiac Overdrive. Timing it correctly is paramount to winning key teamfights.

No. An unstoppable insta kill move is too strong. Mauga’s charge needs to be nerfed so it operates like every other charge move that collides where both get knocked down. Mauga is over buffed in that regard because Blizzard wants his debut strong.

Because it's not like it's actually that strong to use in combat, it's not like a Reinhardt pin who will deal 240 dmg easily or a doomfist punch who will stun a full team. It's a pretty mediocre engagement tool already to the point good Maugas use it as a disengage tool. And it helps him disengage without getting shit on by characters like Ana.

@@hooni2212 He doesn't deserve an unstoppable peel/retreat ability. Can't duel Mauga so you go for his backline, he can peel and stun you. If you somehow get a competent Mauga crit, he can barrel away with high mitigation and can't be stopped.

The only thing he does have is the lifesteal ability which gets countered by things like Sigma, Zarya to deny him to gaining HP. And ofc, one Ana nade makes him die in a second because he doesn't have anything else. His unstoppable charge is the only thing he will have to be able to survive against those matchups, if he didn't had that then Ana would be even more oppressive against him.

I haven't played overwatch in over a year, and holy crap rein's kit just feel so dated. His stupid flame thing that travels slow as hell, and his charge that is basically suicide for him.
