MAUI - SWIM WITH WILD DOLPHINS | La Perouse Bay | Hawaii

The last day of the trip AND my birthday! I was pretty sure I was going to have an uneventful birthday after our week of adventure, but I ended up swimming with FREAKING DOLPHINS!!! We met a guy that told us about La Perouse Bay and that it was a great place to possibly swim with dolphins. So early on my birthday, we went to check it out!

When you filmed the drive to the bay in 2:11 - was the camera in or outside the car?

That shot is from inside the windshield. I used the Joby suction mount on the Jeep windshield and positioned the Gopro so it was nice and centered for the frame. It's one of my favorite mounts for the GoPro! amzn.to/2NU97RB

Dude, thank you so much! So cool of you to say Ryan! The dolphins were a bit of a swim, maybe 10-15 mins of kicking. The best thing to do is hang on the shore and see if you can spot them first. When they're in the bay, they're swimming in a big circle. We were told they're actually in the bay to sort of half sleep, so they swim in large slow circles together. Super cool to see, but even though they're swimming slow, it's still super hard to keep up with them!

Hey Bobby, great question! If you click into the links in the description, you can see all the gear I use, but for my main camera, I'm walking around with a Sony A7RII. Then I switch to GoPro for all the water shots and most of our hikes!

When we were there, we talked with a guy who paddle boarded early every morning there so he could see dolphins! It's a beautiful bay!

That's awesome, you're going to love it! The dolphins were definitely a bit of a swim, but totally doable. Keep an eye out from the shore to see where they're popping up before making the swim. I would say it was probably about a 10-15 minute swim out there!

Dave I love your travel video to Maui. What setup did you use for the underwater videos? Did you use any red filter to get the water really blue? Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much Juni! It's sounds crazy because of how previous models have performed, but the Hero 7 Black in ProTune mode and white balance set to Native picks up underwater scenes perfectly now, no red filter needed! Flip over to the video I made on GoPro accessories and go to the 23:22 mark. There's a freeze frame of my Gopro Protune settings and they looked great underwater. Sometimes you'll need to move the EV Comp to -1, but other than that, the colors look awesome!

swimming with the dolphins is sooo awesome! one of my favorite adventures! i've encountered them in La Perouse Bay, Honolua Bay, and several times out in open water off the Lahaina coast. SO amazing, isn't it? glad you got to experience that! definitely worth the swim, wasn't it? :)
