All of the singers and musicians are so zoned out in this piece it is surreal. They are totally immersed in the creation of a beautiful song. But we get to hear a musical classical. Such brilliant harmony.

Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever". All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.

What a room! How'd ya like to be a mouse in the corner : ) Maura is sensational and so modest. I love the look of admiration Nanci Griffith has. The whole TS series should be on a "world channel" available to to everyone, anytime. Should be mandatory in schools, courtrooms and corporate offices... might turn out to be a much better world. Oh well, I'll get the DVD of TS 2 when it hits the shelves. Thanks for posting this! willy

How can 35 philistines dislike this ? The Transatlantic Sessions were wonderful. Sure, some were uneven, but there are performance gems amongst them. I have ten CDs from the series ( They're not easy to find ) and there's some wonderful stuff in there - this is one of my particular favourites, along with the John Martyn/Kathy Mattea, "May You Never" Many thanks to whoever came up with the concept.

Maura O'Connell w/ James Grant & Nanci Griffith - Blue Train Hello Maura O’Connell, I don’t really know if you read the letters sent to you but I’ll give it a shot. Last year a friend of mine posted “Blue Train” with you James Grant and Nanci Griffith. At that time my heart was empty and still is in a way. When I first watched the video I felt that I was on that train with you. When you started to sing I envisioned you and I looking out windows at the passing scenery but not focusing on anything as it passed, just a blank stare looking inward through our faded reflections upon glass. Please let me thank you and the rest of the group for performing “Blue Train” It truly touches me more than I can express.

Watching the long faces Riding this run down track And the lost places From a dream that never brings them back And the sad truth is nothing but a cold hard fact I'm riding the blue train Over the miles yet to cover A ghost in a hurry to fade I'm taking it one way to nowhere Afraid you might be there To find me inside this blue train Counting the burned bridges Trailing this rusted wreck As our back pages Scatter in the dust we left Like a pearl necklace Fallen from around your neck I'm riding the blue train Over the miles yet to cover A ghost in a hurry to fade I'm taking it one way to nowhere Afraid you might be there To find me inside this blue train Away down the low road A ticket to an empty room A rendezvous unknown I'm riding the blue train Over the miles yet to cover A ghost in a hurry to fade I'm taking it one way to nowhere Afraid you might be there To find me inside this blue train

My little dog "sings" along to this video exclusively. This video is one of my favorites, so it shows up frequently on my playlists and I guess she's also learned to love it. I don't know if it's the harmony, the timbre or something else that prompts her to sing. I posted video of her - search for "Alice Babette" to find it. This morning she sat on my lap and howled right along again.
