Such a great version of this classic song. The Transatlantic Sessions featured so many gifted songwriters & musicians inc all the ones in this superb recording. Loved thus one too..kzbin.info/www/bejne/q33Vd2VsZpqtntksi=EoUXJo46J2PzXqgO

When I see these later clips of John Martyn with other people, it's like they're playing on stage with a bottle of nitro glycerin or some other mercurial substance. Duetting with him must have been nerve-wracking.

From the same set, listen to him singing may you never with Kathy Mattea..it took 2 days and 3 gallons of coffee. But my goodness it pays of.Even John likes the end result.

The intriguing interplay of the guitars, the sensational rhythm section and the silverness of the voice of Jacqui; there's nothing better than this.

Loved humming this song as a teen. Grew up in troubled house, troubled times. Her voice kept me going. 😊

I'm grateful today for how artists like Welch and Rawlings can so masterfully tap into inexpressible pain and rage, then deliver performance like this. I'm equally disappointed that the same artists are so shortsighted as to not allow their fans to share viable links to their work on social media like BlueSky. Really dumb.

The female vocalist, Jacqui McShee is 24 in this video. She will be 81 this Christmas Day. As for the others, I know that Bert Jansch unfortunately passed away around 6 years ago. His voice was really unique.

Superb - I had the good fortune to see June and Martin perform as a duo at a local folk club some decades ago (most likely when the album this song came from was released). Needless to say it was a masterclass in how an accompanist enriches a spellbinding vocalist.

I remember a business trip to Denver years ago, in the late 80s or early 90s. I was walking around and there was a park with an amphitheater and I heard this amazing voice singing. I sat down and listened and heard her name was Iris DeMent. I've been listening ever since. My ex-wife didn't like her, so I had to listen in my car and while traveling. I forgot about this voice for a few years and recently reconnected with your sound. Thanks.

What you may not see in the video is Bert Jansch in the background. John Renbourne in foreground. Pentangle effectively formed in the pub next to the Dominion in Tottenham Court Road on Sunday evenings when Bert and John would each do a set then ther woudl be a session with Jacqui, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox. Bert Jansch would have a whisky and a beer resting in one of his guitars and would stick his cigarette in the strings by the tuning pegs. Great evenings and memories

I once remember a music critic describing Thompson's guitar lines as "spidery". I think that's spot on. Richard Thompson is one of the most gifted and melodic guitarists I've ever heard. Absolutely brilliant!
