This is a perfect scene. Fletcher finally learns from his awful mistakes and is now a loving and caring father/husband. Also, Jerry is such a kind hearted soul.

I hate how the film makes it seem like Jerry is a "bad guy" throughout" most of the movie, until this scene.

... It's only the situation where they r trying to win affection of Audrey that makes them antagonistic to each other .... But in their own right both are great guys Jerry probably much more sauve and kind hearted ...Fletcher wilder and with dormant sensibilities that were finally awakened by the shocking news of Max locating to Boston.... but both are good ..Jerry is graceful in quietly accepting the fact that probably he has to loose his love interest as Max and Audrey are better off not following him to Boston..that's greatness of his character.suave & humane. The film I feel is very philosophical .though it's classified as Humourous Genre...

I love that Audrey and Fletcher got back together in the end. It shows that forgiveness and redemption are fully possible, and that love really can overcome some huge obstacles. Jerry realized he wasn't the one for Audrey when she didn't reciprocate his love confession on the plane. Throughout the movie, they made it clear she was much more comfortable with Fletcher than with Jerry.

@@Kaboomboo Totally agree. That's one of the reasons why, unlike "Liar Liar", "Mrs Doubtfire" is an amazing movie about a divorced family with an amazing ending: the original one was supposed to show the Hillards getting back together; but Sally Field and Robin Williams decided not to shoot such a non-realistic ending, and to give the audience a much stronger, truer and deeper message of love from parents to children, even in case of a divorce; if there is this kind of love and this sincere strong bond, family will always keep existing, whatever happens, even if parents won't be together anymore as a couple.

@@danielbence9562That's true, but sometimes (although, rarely) divorced partners get back together. I wouldn't say that divorce was the focus in this movie. That's how it's unlike "Mrs. Doubtfire". It's not like Audrey didn't allow Fletcher to see Max. Which was the case with Daniel and Miranda. Secondly, the focus wasn't divorce it was about being honest and keeping promises.

Apparently, the studio that produced Mrs. Doubtfire wanted Daniel and Miranda to get back together at the end, but Robin Williams and Sally Field refused to play it that way, because they wanted the ending to be more realistic. However, I can get behind Fletcher and Audrey getting back together again, because they never fell out of love, and Audrey can see that Fletcher truly learned his lesson.

Gotta give Jerry props he knew he couldn't compete with Fletcher. And I loved that about this scene and I loved how this movie is all about a dad redeeming himself from being a shitty dad. Sometimes people do change and as someone who had a dead beat absent dad in life this ending always got to me. It's nice to see a movie about a dad doing right by his kid and choosing to be a better dad. You don't get that in movies anymore really. The dad/ father characters don't get arcs like this.
@insertnamehere2746

Yeah but in this situation that shit would not happen, Fletcher would be in jail for an EXTREMELY long time. It's one thing if Audrey doesn't love Jerry and Jerry accepts that. It's another thing however that 1. She went A LONG time saying that she did love him, and 2. The fact that she got back Fletcher after al the crimes he committed in a span of 24 hours makes her an actual dumb character. Just because he told the truth for 1 day does make him a responsible human being or a good father

@@islandblader what the hell does "trying too hard" with max mean? Isn't a step father supposed to get to know their step son? He would be a piece of shit if he wasnt trying

I have some sympathy for Jerry. Aubrey just wasn't right for him. Also, he couldn't be the dad to Max that Fletcher was.

The ending was ok but actually spreads a bad message. In reality you cant get what you want, like your parents getting back together or your father showing the affection you want. In the end this story would have been sadder if it were reality. Yes, it is fiction, but it kinda creeps me out that the kid is being needy and is technically forcing his parents to get back together.

I agree it is a cheap ending, because any realistic and practial woman would PROBABLY stay with Jerry as he's a responsible caring guy who is THERE for Max and DOES NOT LIE. Same practical woman would also NOT get back with an idiot like Fletcher because yes he did learn to be an honest man but he is still a criminal and a cheater. He has SO MUCH work to do before he should even be allowed to see his kid again, much less have the movie attempt to imply that he's a better fsther figure than Jerry

Yes, it's fictional, but sometimes (although it's much less common) people divorce and then remarry each other. Fletcher and Aubrey were never out of love with each other. The former just wasn't dependable. It's not like "Mrs. Doubtfire" where, Miranda no longer loved Daniel, but the latter just wanted to spend time with his children. Fletcher wasn't fighting for equal custody rights, like Daniel. The central theme in the first was being a dependable father and husband and keeping your promises. Also, explaining why adults need to lie. Whereas in the second, it was about a man who couldn't hold down a job and wanted to be a playmate to his children and not being allowed to see them on his own. The central focus in "Liar, Liar" wasn't divorce like it was in "Mrs. Doubtfire".

My Parents 😍 *i wished for adoption since I was 4 years old, the moment i saw this film i dreamed of being in an environment like this, a family who's moral by the end of the day is tending to his son/child first*

I remember when first renting it with my mom as a kid. When getting to the year later, my mom said "he's going to wish for them to get back together." When the lights turned out and we saw that, and Jim Carrey asked that, it was almost like a joke set up. My mom pointed out that they knew that's what most audience members would be predicting, so they purposefully set it up that way as a joke.
