I have heard him live in Rotterdam in the seventies, no mistakes, perfect, even better then on a record, the GOAT

A most unusual and likely perfect way that Mr. Andre holds the instrument.

If you mean his left hand, it make it easier for him to use his pinky for the 3rd valve slide (also easier if you have big hands). Also (although I didn't see him use the fourth valve) some piccolo players like to use their left hand pointed finger for the fourth valve instead of their right hand pinky.

Correction, at 9:03 you can see him using his left hand to play the 4th valve - I missed it the first time)
What Pavarotti was for opera, Maurice André was for the trumpet. Unforgettable concerts that marked my childhood and musicianship.

Yes, Bertrand, that was Maurice André, perfect, relaxed, totally in control of the concert. I too had a chance to atend to his masterclass, amazing and still very informal. Take care, God bless you.

I must have heard two dozen renditions of Marcello's concerto, and there's none like Maurice André's. Though the recording is older, the most music is made.
