OMG, I went to college of DuPage in Glen Ellyn in 1981-1982. We used to go to Springfield as a family, the land of Lincoln!! What a small world. I was born in Chicago but lived in Glen Ellyn. I love the story of your grandfather. My morning motto is: "This is the day the lord has made, and I am going to happy. I am going to go out and be productive and be a blessing to someone, in Jesus' name, amen." So many similarities!! Thank you for this interview. I am really enjoying your show, Maurice!! I have recently subscribed, and I am looking forward to seeing all of your new and old episodes.

Maurice I love "State of Mind" and I love, love, love GH. I rush home on my work break so I don't miss GH cuz I like watching it in real time and if I'm unable to I'll watch it from another platform! State of Mind, I feel de-stigmatizes mental illness for myself (and I can only speak for myself) and I hope for others. I love how you are able to talk freely about it and share the path you took for your healing journey. It is possible to make healthy choices and experience joy in life! I suffered for the longest time with depression and anxiety, was on medication for 14 years, and I now have 24 years clean and sober. I've learned so much and my life has been transformed. Awareness of myself and how I'm feeling in the moment is key in my healing journey and I've heard you express similar sentiments. Thank you for being there for so many and blessings to you for your many talents.

Enjoyed this video. Having the multitude of diagnoses, it helped hearing your stories, but what anxiety entails and remedies, context of it. I had my first anxiety attack on a plane. Mid air and felt I’d die if I didn’t get off that plane. By the grace of God there was a doctor on board. My brother was mad at me cause he had to move into the doctors seat 🤣 thank you

This might be one of my favorites so far, the transparency about both your and Josh's anxiety, childhood and becoming a father is so relatable! Even as a mother I could feel the love growing in Josh's voice as he described his grandfather, daughter and wife. Truly touching!! Then to top it off anxiety reduction tips!! Wheww I know I say it everytime but truly thank you Maurice for doing these, they truly do make me feel less alone.

One of my favorite State of Mind episodes so far! Sometimes it's triggering hearing these conversations about mental health because I always sympathized with people who struggled with anxiety and depression but never quite understood the ins and outs. Then after the pandemic hit, I was hit incredibly hard with both. Just like you Josh, I thought I was dying when I had my first panic attack. It was incredibly scary and humbling. I had no choice but to slow down and confront my mental health. Maurice, I admire you so freakin much. You are a soldier. And as much as I liked the character of Sonny (been a fan since I was 11, now I'm 26), I LOVE him now simply because you were vulnerable enough to bring your personal story to this character in the most authentic way. Simply put, the struggle is real. As an actor myself, I only hope to someday portray a character as honest as you do. I'm also glad you've been able to take a break with the character, Mike. Keep up the great work! And remember to take care of yourselves

Awareness with regard to stressors is vital to understanding what is happening in your mind and body when/or if you are having a panic attack, anxiety or any other mental health issue. Like Josh said, it can just happen out of seemingly nowhere and in that moment you won't even realize what IT is...which can be so scary. You both are fortunate that you are actors because it gives you a way to use what you experience to give your performances nuances that otherwise might never be there...using your experiences (whatever they are) to bring forth good works (whatever they are) is everything. Sending you both thanks for a great interview! 💌💌

I loved the spiritual side of Josh and how you both acknowledge blessings as a gift from God. I saw one instagram chat with Grandpa and wow what a way of looking and living life. It was a great discussion today about recognizing your triggers, doing the work to learn how to work through them and eventually having a box of tools to help prevent them. I love how Josh found apps to rework his mind set along with a daily dose of Grandpa. Thanks Maurice for keeping it so real.

Wonderful conversation...enjoyed listening to both you and Josh. Josh sharing about his faith in God and his grandfather's outlook on life is INSPIRATIONAL and reminds me so much of my father, mother and my great aunt who both had strong faith in God and such a positive outlook on life. I am one that believes having a relationship with God is so important and incorporating words of affirmation daily helps to set the tone of your day. What a great way to look at life, it's so amazing that Josh has that great relationship with his grandfather and the fact that he can learn so much from him. He is not only learning so much from him, but the respect, the time and appreciating everything about his grandfather helps his grandfather as well. That goes a long way. He is leaving a legacy behind with Josh which he can then pass down and do the same with his children and grandchildren to come God willing. Its so beautiful.

Its cool to hear how different yet similar anxiety can be for each person. I do the pins and needles too but its my arms face hands and legs. I do that with regular fear too so I never really connected it to my anxiety specifically. Its my most painful physical symptom but also have chest and stomach pain. Really enjoyed this interview and Josh is so likeable (and handsome but I'm probably too old to be commenting there, lol. Makes me feel like a cougar)

Really enjoyed the dialogue. It gives me hope to see a young man, husband, now father, be so together, living and responsible.. It gives me hope He should run workshops for men only on being a man. He's got it down. There are too many angry, toxic, irresponsible men.around. it's not their fault. It's how they were raised and socialized. We need to do better. Men are hurting and don't have the tools to express themselves and navigate life's stressful moments, so they lash out I hope his videos with his grandpa are out there. Boys need to be mentored through early manhood. These videos should be widely distributed. Healing needs to begin for everyone! Thank you M.B. for giving Josh a platform to share his journey with us!🙏🏽

I am watching this and I'm going to have to pause it to watch General Hospital. I think I may have an addiction to GH problem. LOL I watch it at 7pm on Hulu. I love these State of Mind videos! I so enjoyed listening to Josh talk about his Grandpa. My Daddy lived to be 95. I wish I could have more conversations with him. And I love that Josh has already learned about the bubble of forgiveness and not worrying about tomorrow. I didn't learn that until in the past few years. I have managed to muddle through life and so far, I've gotten up and tackled every day for the past 61 years and that's a great track record! I just wish I'd learned that at Josh's age. Ok, I'm off to watch GH!

15 minutes in and I realize how I have to look at these interviews. Maurice has a need to help others through his own experiences with mental illness. At first I looked at Maurice having to tell his story as he always seems to take over the conversation with his story and that annoyed me. If his intention is to help people how can I judge him especially since I have been helped by these videos. I have had one small panic attack in my life and I knew why it was happening. Knowing why helped me and I just went on. I have had a few small events in which my fear caused me to lose my breath but I figured that out too. Definitely a Grace for me. What my little events taught me is that it all had to do with a loss of control and I understood that. Then there are others like Maurice who have had severe events in his life, things I don't understand but yes I believe he and others go through their hells. I am not a Scientist or Doctor, I don't understand the brain but I have compassion and pray for those who go through anxiety, panic attacks, bipolar and all other kinds of mental illness. I will hold you in my heart as often as I can. I love you and pray for your wellness. Maurice......keep up your good works, I admire you so.
