I really enjoyed that interview, Maurice. Thank you Donnell for your candor. I’m African American and am happy to see people of color on GH. My Grandmother and mother watched this show since it first aired in 1963. Donnell, I can identity with the things you were speaking about. My mother and grandmother insisted that we children needed watch how we spoke and behaved as the world was watching and would judge us. Just in case you read this, Donnell my daughter and I met you at the GH fan club weekend and I told you that you reminded me of Marvin Gaye and you still do. ♥️ Much love and thank Maurice and Donnell for a great interview. ♥️

What a great blessing that Port Charles has a community of blacks that have integrity. I love the integrated relationships too. Maurice you do make your guest feel comfortable. Interview was excellent! As a woman of color(black)raised in the South, Donnell cracked the door on many issues I’ve faced with family, fiends, and associates. Being black in predominantly white environments, my mother would tell me I act like white folks and “we don’t act like that,” when I’d have episodes as a child. My brother was asked by Mama to go pickup my prescription after I’d moved into my own place, but was so out of it, she was worried. He, a minister in a huge, prosperous black church, sat down to talk to me about faith and prayer. Again, black folks are strong and faithful. The Lord puts nothing on us we cannot handle with love and prayer. And then he excused himself for saying my overexposure to white folks prevents me from knowing how to handle my feelings, thoughts on my head, and shook his head at the use of the word depression. That was 25 years ago and it still makes me ready to cry. So, please find a black person or people who can speak to how black people handle/don’t handle psychological problems... Well, I know those who consider alcohol, elicit drugs, sexual promiscuity and abuse on or from others as their medicine. Years of therapy and medication have taught me this State Of Mind is hereditary. My daughter started treatment at 22 and her therapy reveals family dynamics that she avoids for her wellness and that promotes my ongoing anxiety and depression. I’ll be watching you for a “Black State Of Mind” episode. Oh, I am educated, former journalist and columnist, loving mother, and Christian who grew up serving in the Baptist Church.👌🏽

When Donnell said he was glad to be "on the canvas" of GH, I feel that thought can be expanded to life in general. Maurice what you said about how harming yourself affecting other people is so true. I am bipolar and I had an amazing therapist. One day he told me that suicide was harder on a family than murder because they always wonder what they could have done to prevent it. What signs did they miss where if they had noticed might have made a difference. I’ve been to the brink and that thought has stopped me. I would rather suffer than make the people I love go through that. Therapy, medication and taking care of myself has kept me stable for years and years. Thank goodness. Thank you for state of mind and your willingness to be real. I appreciate all that you do.

I’m so glad that you are still here sharing your thoughts with us all.❤️ I agree with Donnell completely about the type of racism he experienced. Most people (including myself) make comments or ask questions of people that don’t look like them because they don’t know. Ignorance of others life experiences can lead to fear if we are not educated. I’m so glad that he was able to use those experiences in a positive way to change others views. I believe that knowledge of others will help to lessen the fear of not knowing that leads to violence.

Although I grew up on General Hospital (80’s/90’s), I haven’t watched regularly in quite sometime. Being able to watch State of Mind outside of the mindset of a GH fan allows me to really listen to the stories of your guests as the genuine people that they are and not as an actor or someone famous. Your show today just felt good. I don’t know how else to describe it. Your guest was so real, so human. When people are like that, you can’t help but connect to what they are saying bc what they are sharing is being offered from one human being to another, and any other differences don’t matter in that moment. I don’t even know if this makes sense. I don’t know how to put it into words. The show felt great today and I felt good bc of it. Thanks to both of you gentlemen.
