The French seem to have had a bunch of singers with charm and great personality and not much of a voice (which is less important) like Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf or Charles Aznovour. The latter was known as 'Charles Aznovoice' among our UK television comedians! My father played Chevalier's 'Louise' on our family wind up gramphone in the early fifties to his rapidly growing family, of which I was the firstborn. Chevalier reminded me of my grandfather and was a favourite of mine. My imitations of his French accent no doubt helped me (a little!) when I did French at High School a bit later.

You are right, not much of a singer but the consummate entertainer and performer. But I was too in elementary school with my Mound City Blue Blowers kid group. I acted out every song I sang and interacted with the audience talking directly to them.I would sing I Ain’t Got Nobody and look directly at a girl sitting in the front row and say to her, “But if you meet me after the show we can change that situation” Or if a teacher said to me, “ You are terrible get off the stage” I would look at her and say, “ Is that what your husband says to you in the morning, ‘ You are terrible, get out of bed! “ That line got a big laugh from the kids and detention for a week for me from the teacher.

@@jazzguy1927 You were a real charmer with that girl! No wonder Jazzguy 1927 ended up with a beautiful lady! I see you highly commended her dancing elsewhere - take care or Linda will be looking for in increase in her pocket money!

@@sammckinstry - I picked up lines like that from watching old movies with Frank Fay. People say no 12 year old kid would use lines like that. But a 12 year old would if had been watching old vaudeville movies on tv since he was 5. And I did.
