Hello lovely people and welcome back to my channel.
Today’s video is all about the gorgeous Crystal Rock in Mauritius 🇲🇺
Let’s get into some History.
CRYSTAL ROCK, MAURITIUS.
The Rock in Mauritius is an exposed section of a fossilised coral reef, an example of a biochemical sedimentary rock. Mauritius boasts a wide and shallow lagoon behind an extensive barrier reef that lies up to 1 km (0.62miles) out from the beachfront.
The back-reef lagoon is the site of deposition (the laying, placing or accumulation of sediment) and reworking of carbonate minerals derived from the reef or reef dwelling organisms. The shoreward reworking of this material is what creates the characteristic white carbonate sand beaches of many tropical islands.
The volcanic island of Mauritius is slowly subsiding; when it eventually dips below sea-level the coral reefs riming the island will have created an atoll.
Lagoon: A small body of water separated from larger sea by a barrier of sand or coral reefs. It can be either adjacent to a coastline or surrounded by an atoll.
Atoll: A circular coral island that encloses a lagoon. Atolls are usually formed on top of submerged volcanoes. Another example is the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands of the Pacific Ocean.
There you have all the information ℹ️ and now when in Mauritius 🇲🇺 go and check out this beautiful gorgeous Crystal Rock.
Till next time. Much Love
