I have a set of forging blocks for doing this. Midway used to sell them also you should have a heat sink installed in the bolt body to direct the excess heat out of the bolt they come with the forging blocks or can be bought separately. I always heat with a neutral flame and when the bolt handle is a bright orange I bend it needs to be done with as few blows as necessary. If you over heat it will be bad usually pop the handle off or stretch it a lot. I have cut and welded probably over thirty with Brownells replacement handles I just used carbon steel rods and a tig torch. I had a welder do one and he used a mig welder it was a little nastier looking and required more grinding but ended up just fine. Forging the handles usually ends up with a short handle there are ways of stretching one gunsmith I know has a vice with forging blocks built into it and he can stretch them quite a bit. I also have a bolt welding jig I bought from Midway it really helps when welding them on you can position them perfectly and tack the new bolt then remove it.

Also Amazon has a heating tool that's electric. I don't know much about it though. Map gas is hotter than propane😁. It works great with the turbo head.

I've been meaning to buy some map gas. I should have for this it may have worked! I need to invest in an acetylene torch.

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you and happy new year! I agree 100% if your not failing your not trying! I come up with crazy ideas all the time I'd say 50% of them are good ideas lol.

The easy lock has been out for over five years. You should invest in an angle head while you're at it.

I'll have to look into that. That sounds useful! Thanks for watching!
