And then once Rock and Austin left the reign of terror happened. I don't think this was a coincidence. He saw that they were gone and now he's the bona fide top guy and he just grabbed onto that spot as hard as he could and never let go and kicked anyone down that got close to him. That was my take on the whole thing anyway.

Unfortunately not only was he thrown under the bus by Triple H and Shawn Michaels, he also was made into a punching bag for the Undertaker over the following months/years, and thats how the WWE slowly started to kill Maven's character and appeal with the audience. They basically made him look like a loser on purpose, never letting him go above low/mid tier card performances and never letting his character develop into something that actually had substance. Wich is a shame considering he was an "example" to the everyday man that you could "per say" become a wrestler if you truly had the ambition for it. They should have built his character around the fact that he was relatable as a person rather than trying to invent something for him. Thats why they came up with nothing for him as well.
