Stevie Richards pointed out that Terry Funk had such a long career because he built stars up everywhere he went, not just because he was a giving, generous guy, but because he was smart enough to know that more top and upper-midcard wrestlers meant more opponents meant more work.

And as Curt Hennig also knew... The young guys you treat when they are new, you will eventually meet them again as time goes on, you age, so do they, and they become the headliners... You make your own reputation with the next generation.

HHH, even with Vince's backing still had a ceiling on him during the attitude era. Rock, Austin and Undertaker were at an unattainable height that he could never reach no matter what he did. And then once Rock and Austin left the reign of terror happened. I don't think this was a coincidence. He saw that they were gone and now he's the bona fide top guy and he just grabbed onto that spot as hard as he could and never let go and kicked anyone down that got close to him. That was my take on the whole thing anyway.

Definitely. My childhood friends and I would make fun of HHH and how he got married to be in the same league as these other guys. Kurt Angle should've been bigger than him. I stopped being a fan when HHH became the top guy. Even if Cena and Orton were bigger stars, HHH was booked like this dragon that could beat both if he wanted. Laughable.

I was hoping Maven would at least get an IC title run; it seemed like in 2004 he was getting that slow, Shelton Benjamin type push where he'd be involved in the main event scene, score some notable wins, and then get an IC title run out of it. It just seemed to have abruptly stopped; last thing I remember him doing was teaming with Simon Dean, shilling for his products lol

Unfortunately not only was he thrown under the bus by Triple H and Shawn Michaels, he also was made into a punching bag for the Undertaker over the following months/years, and thats how the WWE slowly started to kill Maven's character and appeal with the audience. They basically made him look like a loser on purpose, never letting him go above low/mid tier card performances and never letting his character develop into something that actually had substance. Wich is a shame considering he was an "example" to the everyday man that you could "per say" become a wrestler if you truly had the ambition for it. They should have built his character around the fact that he was relatable as a person rather than trying to invent something for him. Thats why they came up with nothing for him as well.

Last the last what I heard that he actually reached out, probably not as a wrestler but something in the backstage so that would be cool because he liked it and I'm sure paychecks will be decent and could do a lot and go a lot of places and travel.
