Mm favourite part in the first book is where Chester tries to pound a steak into Bunnicula’s heart... a T-bone steak... and laments that it’s not working while Harold watches him drooling. “It’s supposed to be a sharp steak” “I can taste it and tell you if it’s sharp.”

I read these books many times when I was younger. At some point in the series, I believe it's Howliday Inn, Chester is interrogating other animals, and when he gets to another cat, Chester accuses the cat of "plotting something." The cat fires back with, "I'm a cat. We're always plotting something," and since both Chester & Harold can't argue with the logic, they both drop it.

I loved Bunnicula growing and I vividly remember having a pop up nook where the family goes to a haunted house at a carnival and reading it and going through it hundreds of times. It’s nice to know that the cute vampire bunny is a favorite of other people as well. 💜

"Bunnicula" was a real book? And there's sequels, too? Holy crap! The recollection of reading it was buried so far back in my childhood memories I was starting to wonder if I'd just imagined the story. It's great that it's a real thing, and the author seems awesome, too. Thanks for the review, Maven!

Bunnicula was almost certainly the first "real" book series I ever read, and I'm thankful to be reminded that I probably owe Mr. Howe more than I realized. Especially looking back on my recently completed online comic, Zebra Girl, which featured no actual zebras but many, many rabbits and vampires.

erin h Lmao it was always mermaids and vampires with me. Mermaids when I was younger and closeted and more carefree, but then after coming out and dealing with homophobia all around I became obsessed with the power and darkness of vampires and drew power from it. A lot of young gays are obsessed with Greek mythology too lmao.

Bunnicula as well as the Invisible Inc series really helped me through middle school. As a young pansexual woman with autism, books like these helped me escape from the alienating segregation of the “special” education system. Bunnicula is definitely a book I recommend for any parent, especially since Halloween is around the corner

I was seriously obsessed with these books as a kid. Chester was actually my favorite character, for all his faults I always loved how dramatic and imaginative he was. He's a big part of the reason I became so fascinated with horror and mystery fiction. As far as my favorite book in the series goes it's a tough call, it would probably be either the first or third one.

The legends go if you have squash that you left in the fields too long past picking time (or pumpkins kept past Christmas) they will in fact become animate and stalk and attack people. Also sometimes a drop of blood is claimed to be seen on them -hence the vampire part.

I've loved this book my ENTIRE life. Literally, I was born in 1982 and Bunnicula was one of the first stories I read. I've read all of them to some extent or other (except the last, which THANK YOU MAVEN now I gotta find it!), and Harold is one of my favorite characters ever. I had no idea until this very video that James Howe was gay. That feels like a rather serious oversight on my part.
