Your reviews are extensive and amazing! I love Straight Outta Fangton. And Cary Hite is the perfect narrator to bring this book out. The scenes where you see the world from a vampire's eyes just completely blows Twilight's "blur effect" to dust, nothing made me think "huh, vampires are cool" like that underwater-camera way that they have of observing the world around them.

Sounds interesting, you don't get really down to earth vampires very often. I can only really think of "Being Human" as another. It also has a very bleak opinion of what a vampire ultimatly is/will always be and draws some very dark comparisons.
@Kaefer19735 жыл бұрын
Even if the power aspect had been enough to make Vampires monsters, it still would not have made all vampires monsters though, there do exist Vampires in fiction that have no superhuman traits and abilities at all and are pretty much just humans that need to drink blood. I'm sure somewhere there's fiction where the same is true but vampires also happen to be weaker or dumber than humans.

Happy christmas and happy yule. Have fun fiesting on the innocent food with your fledgeling and clan. You really should watch izombie if you havent. Its all kind of stuff. And the downsides of getting your hands on human brains, like a brains dealer. And a female protagonist who looks much better as gothic zombie than before her transformation and happens to be a doctor who has access to a morgue with a nerly openminded boss-friend.. Besides that a cure, the potential exploitation of innocent zombies by a big company, a military company who honestly just wants to protect zombies. The downside that you get random characteristics of the person whose brain you disguest. The meaning of unlife. Humor and references and more humor with drama. It really uses a mi of vampire and zombie tropes with a lot of humor and substance.

while listening I noticed two things... First of Ive seen the "vampires have been protecting humanity from the sidelines" thing before and i doubt its anything as bad in THIS book as it is in the one im thinking of but I dont like it when supernatural creatures are put in and then they go "oh yeah all of those human accomplishments were actually vampires" (like in that book basically every famous scientist or artist was secretly a vampire it was dumb) because there's this implication that humans cant accomplish this stuff themselves also "end wars" in WHAT WAY bc stopping TWO factions from murdering each other is a lot harder than helping destroy the weaker one and then the war is ALSO ended so. you know the other thing is the "vampires as a minority" thing bc having beings that are inherently more dangerous than humans mistreated as an allegory for racism has some obvious flaws but obviously I dont know how its handled in this particular book...
@CT_Phipps6 жыл бұрын
What I went for, which is entirely up to readers to judge whether I was successful or not, is that vampires are rich controlling assholes who have an enormously inflated opinion of themselves. Peter and Thoth are also both black men who are also vampires so they have a somewhat eye-rolling relationship to claims that racism against the undead is the same as racism against other minorities. "What's the difference." "We eat people. That's not cosmetic." Is an actual line in the sequel.

Yaay another video! I'm not a patron, but, I think it would be fun if you did a video about Dracula: The musical, by Wildhorn. The english version is meh, but the German is better, and then there is the japanese version, and the OTHER japanese version with Wao Yoka (yeah a woman) as Dracula. So there is a chance to see a genderswapped dracula :D Please have a look I think you will like them (though it is not the best musical in the world... even though Dracula is in it) and find the different iterations interesting. (Wao Yoka also did The Phantom as a Takarazuka Kagekidan years ago, But, Wildhorns Dracula isn't a Takarazuka so it's just a normal musical with only Dracula being genderswipped... or more like, agender, in that performance.)
