I understand your viewpoint. The way that I see it, is that they are not saying that He is crazy but about how radical His Love is. He Is Love. The mere thought of knowing that God loves us still after we sin and when we don't always go to Him for everything. He is Always there for us. Waiting...like the parable/story of the prodigal son. He welcomes us with open arms.

I think you should just think about it this way: It doesn't make sense how God still loves us and chooses is despite how many times we mess up. He doesn't gain anything from expressing His love towards us..... it's actually more like a loss to Him. Now if you were to try and process that as a human being, doesn't that sound crazy to you? I believe that's the message that they're trying to communicate.
