Tony's Chocolonely chocolate bar review!

Tony's Chocolonely has finally made its way from the Netherlands over to Scotland and I am embarrassingly excited about it. Today I'm tasting these gigantic funky chocolate bars to let you know whether or not they're worth your money - enjoy!

The unequal parts of the bar represent the inequality in the chocolate world, where the major companies get everything and where there is hardly anything left for the workers. Sooo its basically the definition of food for thought. The company was actually founded by a journalist who went to a cacao farm where he saw slavery, so he decided to make a chocolate bar which is 100% slave free. That is the main reason why its a bit more pricey.

@@layla515 FURTHERMORE, do you think that paying for more expensive chocolate that has the "fair trade" stamp on it will miraculously stop those individuals from being slave traders ? lol, let me tell you how things work in the real world, where bad people DO EXIST and evil is present everywhere : they will use the extra cash to bribe the authorities, and get the proper license, thus, your "fair trade" money that you pay extra will go in the pockets of even more bad people, that will now have money to pay for prostitution (which is yet another form of slavery) gambling and all sorts.

I ate that to. It was awfull. Normally I love chocolate with salted caramel. The local shop who makes it in my village makes really good chocolate. Well my friend wanted to give me some chocolate of tony chocolonely. I tried it. Tbh most awfull chocolate I've ever eaten. I think it was outdated . Because it tasted really awfull.

Another cool thing you didn't mention is that Tony's actually built their brand around fighting slavery in the cocoa industry. It was probably the first fair trade chocolate brand in the Netherlands, (also why the price is higher). I live in the Netherlands and Tony's has gained a lot of popularity here and it's many crazy flavors are a staple in pretty much every supermarket.

In the Netherlands, Tony Chocolonely is kind of like LIFE. I haven't met anyone yet who does not get big excited eyes, when they hear the name Tony Chocolonely. I love the pretzel one, I am so happy that I onces thought, what the hell, just buy it and go taste it. There is even a Tony Chocolonely cake.... never have tasted it, but I will get my hands on it.

I bought one yesterday and it was nearly five pounds....I think I was ripped off. It’s hard to eat and the way they do the squares mean you can’t snap it off easily. I don’t see the fuss.

Durham Girl, the pieces are a bit of a hassle, the first version didn't have them. But the brand grew and the pieces were changed since chocolate is still "unfair". So, at first it was just fairtrade, but since it was run by a guy who checks the goods we buy on his tv show (origin and composition) he discovered there was still slavery involved in fairtrade bars. I think the fuss is there aren't many a-brand fairtrade chocolate bars, and the taste is good. But if you don't care about either fair trade or getting a famous brand, then there are other options. There are plenty of small name fair trade options that are good too. In the Netherlands they go for 2.75 euro to 3.75 on average, depending on the bar and where you buy them. Which is slightly more than côte d'or

Sadly Tony’s has partnered with Barry Callebaut which is the model of child slave labour in the chocolate industry. They had to change their messaging because they were getting sued. You should look for ethically made craft chocolate. In Scotland one maker you could look for is Chocolate Tree. There are also many ethical makers in England that are not only better tasting and truly ethically sourced. As a chocolate sommelier I can help you find so much better chocolate.

Good video but a few points. These bars actually cost £3.50 in Sainsburys (this goes down to £2.75 when they are on offer) Compare this to one of the similar sized Cadburys bars (which are actually bigger in weight, 200g) which are £1.50 when on offer. Apparently Tony's are emphasising their non-use of slaves in the grop growing process, perhaps as a reason for the inflated price. But does this mean Cadburys use slaves? I was rather put off when u shoved virtually half the bar in your mouth on the first bar. Im not sure you should be mentioning porn sites on a kids youtube channel. Other than that, you're all good!
