Actually guys, the first "rules" (As opposed to laws) stated by the FAA where to use common sense when flying and not do anything to deliberately put by-standers/members of the public in danger, also do let flying FPV is still actually 'against the rules. So I personally wouldn't fly my Drone over a rollercoaster that was in operation with passengers on it because if an accident was to occur, it may somehow result in multiple deaths! Or serious injury. And to me that is not a risk worth taking. I love drones and I fly mine as often as I can, but laws are in place to keep others safe and using common sense also protects you and others. I do t want to see drones being cometley banned in the future and it's a real possibility if people don't conduct themselves properly when using them.

Either camera with a quick interchange mount. I really could use both of these cameras on a regular basis but I'm not dropping $3k for two drones which seems to be what DJI wants us to do. Maybe I can rig a mount for a Sony RX100 camera.....

Okay wait, am I crazy for liking the Mavic 2 Zoom better than the Pro? At 8:17 for example, it just seems a teeny bit sharper, plus you get the added zoom effect, AND the cheaper price tag. The colors of both are much improved from the Mavic 1 for sure. Also... we're vloggers and use the Mavic 1 quite frequently, and I gotta admit, I'm not super happy with the technical side of things when it comes to the Mavic. We have connectivity issues a ton (sometimes mid-flight, which is NOT fun), plus calibration issues occasionally, and recently we've been experiencing a ton of lag between joystick movements and actual flying movements. Basically, there just seems to be a lot wrong on the tech side of things when it comes to the Mavic, and I don't see people bring those things up a lot. Or maybe we're just alone in experiencing these things. :( Have these things improved with the new drones? I honestly wouldn't consider buying a new drone until I know for sure if the issues are fewer and further in between.

This is unedited footage. The zoom is made to be more straight from the camera. I guarantee that if they showed the clips to be color graded and sharpened in post you would be jizzing your pants on how much better the Pro is.

His graph is based by the price, which is wrong. I got the Spark and for its price i would say its quality is better, than what he rated it. Just because its cheap it does not equal to its bad. Beside i think we other normal consumers would rate the price tag of the more expensive drones different, but that comes by individual preferences.

is anyone else noticing the small jitter/stutter on the new mavic 2's footage? It also appears on Kai W vid aswell. The way to fix it is to use "optical flow" in premiere to make the shot smooth, however it's abit unnecissary. Great comparison Casey!

It's hard to compare smoothness from KZbin videos because the exposure setting plays a huge role for that. You want to have it around 60 for a pleasant motion blur but if it's too bright you can't do that and get a stuttery looking image. ND filters help tho

yep, not jitter its just the auto shutter speed/aperture setup is shit. can be corrected with a nd filter and slowing the shutter down to 1/50th to smooth it out.

The Pro 2 is way better than the zoom since the camera has a way larger sensor. You need to watch some of the serious KZbinrs that are 100% into camera skills etc. If Casey would record with no adjustment on at all on the cameras and then adjusted the colours, the pro 2 would look way better ( which Casey do mentioning the beginning @1:14 the dynamic range is larger = better picture=better colours . have a look at Kai on YT for example : )

I film a lot on the water actually - you don't usually see that much in the way of big lurching motion artifacts in the waves unless the camera codec's bit-rate is having trouble keeping up during capture... either that or it was heavily compressed before upload.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ill have to see more footage, but it looks like the sensor cant quite keep up with horizontal pitch movement at speed while zoomed in. If its just a matter of playing with manual camera settings, then ill get the zoom. Otherwise Ill get the Mavic 2. Crazy how you can almost fly a "gh5" on something so small. Cant wait to use the new mavic in SE Asia for the winter!

That's more likely a result of selected shutter speed not matching up cleanly with the recorded frame rate. It'd be great to know ISO and shutter speed settings for each of the samples.

I've been debating over which of these 3 to choose from for months now. Super helpful video. Thank you! The only thing attracting me towards the 1st generation Mavic is that I can mount an Insta360 One X to it using a legitimate attachment accessory. But then there's the Pro 2 with the 1" sensor... and then there's the 2 Zoom with zoom function for some awesome aerial dolly zooms... Really want to mount a 360 camera to a drone without having to jury rig it, but also have better quality image than the 1st gen Mavic. Even after watching this, it's hard to decide.

Honestly, I think the combination of video quality and price point make the Mavic Pro the obvious choice for normal, working class folk like me who want to get into drone cinematography but don't want to spend a house payment to get one. I'm writing this in July of 2019 and right now a new Mavic Pro w/ controller, spare props and carrying satchel can be had for $760. That's almost affordable. Nice work, DJi!

In my opinion, quality of Mavic 2 Pro is much better than the zoom. The zoom does give you the ability to shoot in its own unique way. I love that vertigo effect but I can live without it. I’d much rather get insane high quality footage. Ideally, it would be great if the two models were combined. Maybe we’ll get that in a future model.

Nice, I think if you're doing professional drone work, having the Hasselblad is ultimately much better than having a zoom feature. Zoom would be amazing to have, but in terms of how often you use it, compared to the value of a 1 inch sensor, the Mavic 2 Pro wins as a more professional device.

I think both of those things are mainly because of the different lighting. The mavic 1 was flown later in the day, lending to a "redder" image, and the sun being lower helped show off shadows in the bumps and crevices in the sand. On the monitor I'm watching (Not 4K) I can see very little difference.. But the Mavic 1 seems to have "smoother video" I can notice small stutters in the mavic 2, however that one seems to be flying faster, which would make it more noticeable. I really don't think I can make any kind of comparison between the two without seeing the raw files.

Based off everything you said, your final placement was incorrect. The Zoom quality is less than both the P4P, and the M2P, so it shouldn't be that far to the right. It can be further up though, as it is in fact cheaper.

I've been wondering for a long time about buying a drone and the Mavic 2 Pro is at the top of my list. I think the one thing that prevents me from doing so is that my home is 2 miles from the nearest airport. That means that since my home is within 5 miles of an airport, I can't fly it at home. That's a real bummer. At least I can take it out to places of interest and fly there, so my interest in buying one hasn't been killed off entirely.

The side by side comparison with the original Mavic Pro has the brightness turned way down.. Did someone forget to adjust it with the right finger dial? It makes the old one look drab when it doesn't have to be. I like the zoom feature too, but not enough to spend another $1300 when the Mavic Pro works great for me right now. King AAA turn the saturation down or change the color profiles. I have the 1st gen mavic Pro as well the only complaint I have with the camera is to do with the gimbal. If you can get mavic Pro 1st gen for $800 or less refurbished or new from Dii, and you don’t need most bleeding edge. Do it, mostly defiantly. I have mavic Pro 1st gen, mavic Air, Spark and ordered the mavic 2 Pro (not zoom) Mavic Pro 1st gen is still great drone if you can get it for $800 or less cuz: 1. Occusync 1.0 and 2.0 are very similar in range and connection quality. Means less interference and stronger connection when drone is behind something or obstructed (happens even if you fly legally) 2. Battery life is exceptional regularly get over 20 minutes out of it still. 3. It’s still very portable... more portable than the 2nd gen Mavics as they are heavier and little thicker. 4. Camera quality i would rate top 5 for consumer drones. Have a lot of camera settings to tweak...maybe too much. 5. Have a lot of pro-level feature son the mavic 1st gen still like you can trim responsiveness and change how the aircraft behaves, how camera behaves, picture quality. 6. ton of redundancies.

Here is how I rate the drones based equal weighting of portability, quality and price: (mavics only) 1. Refurbished 1st gen mavic Pro ($799) 2. Mavic 2 Zoom for $1200... stunning product the quality and capabilities are worth it. 3. Mavic Air. ($750 sale) Fantastic portable drone, a lot of features for the price. Quality is 1st gen mavic Pro.. very solid .. suffers on battery runtime and range.. 4. Mavic 2 Pro ($1500). While all features and qualities are top notch, the price pulls it down to #4. Not a bad price at all! Just puts it position below others for what they offer. If someone was in the sub $1000 market for a “entry level” pro drone, I would suggest a refurbished mavic Pro 1st gen.. as debated as that maybe.. the price of $799 settles it. Occusync 1.0 is only 2nd to occusync 2.0z. So range and connection quality is far above wifi and is plenty. Battery run time is rated at 27 minutes, I manage around 20-24 minutes typical use and 18 minutes In sport mode rocketing around. Camera is very usable, a lot of camera settings and profiles and things to tweak. So if your willing and know what your doing you can get a lot out fo it. Slightly more portable than new gen of mavic 2... little lighter and little thinner. . I know I put mavic air on top of the list.. that’s based purely on even weighting. I love the mavic air and I often find it hard to deduce which drone I’m going to pack when traveling.. my issues with mavic air is mostly down to the WiFi system and the battery. WiFi is very prone to interference. And I certainly encountered that a few times even at the beach outside the hotels.. I guess a lot of WiFi to compete with. And battery is rated for 21 minutes.. and I realistically get on avg 15 minutes of flight time. And in sport mode forget it. It’s usable battery but I like mavic pro’s battery because I have a solid buffer if it gets lost or being blown a bit... battery mavic Pro is big enough that even when its low it has a lot of range and time left in the air compared to the mavic air.

Quality to price ratio. It's like comparing entry-level cars to mid-range cars. Entry level cars will get you from A to B but won't have all the power, conform, interior options etc... that a mid-range car can offer. So you would have to compare mid-range to mid-range and entry to entry. He is comparing mid-range drones. Most do not need one but if you need/want one that has good quality features all round (not entry level features) then that chart makes sense. I'm waffling here but if you have a custom PC... a GTX 1060 (entry/mid-range card for example) wouldn't make sense to a person who just uses MS Office and internet browsing and they would find it difficult to justify the prices and claim no average person would spend that much on that sort of thing

I truly think, the greatest feature these drones have is the bigger censor! i dont feel like the zoom one is something you need, cause with 4k footage you can simply zoom and zoom AND ZOOM digitally in Premiere and still have a descent looking vid resolution-wise! I know zooming in with a zoom-in lence is better cause of the focal length, but considering the controls and mistakes that might happen with depth of field it sounds kinda hard to get out perfect footage out of it.

This is on an unrelated note but there is another electric bike that you may want to check out or test ride if you are ever in LA. It's called the Monday Motorbike Generation 7. It is quite expensive at $4,500 -$4,800 but has a range of 35- 50 mph. It resembles ( in a way) a Harley Davidson Sportster bike. I know that you have ridden motorbikes in the past and this might satisfy that need to ride a motorcycle but on an electric bike that is also legally categorized as an electric bike. Which in turn means that no insurance or motorcycle license is needed. To sum this up, this bike might be a fun tech Tuesday review or something for personal enjoyment because I know you have already done the Super 73 review

I still think the mavic air is the prefered choice if you're traveling with it. I had the phantom 4, mavic pro, and now the air. Problem with the other 2 is that it doesn't fit in a camera bag that's already stuffed with other things. The quality of the mavic air is more than good enough for youtube, and its super compact. Like every photographer says, the best camera is the one you have with you, and for drones, it's the one that you can actually bring along and fly. So for that reason, I like my air more than the others. Another thing is, these bigger drones scare the crap out of people still, and the air is much less intrusive.

Yea man, I use the air professionally for real estate, events and weddings. Throw on a polarised ND filter and the footage looks awesome st8 out of the bird. And the best thing is that i can fit the RC and drone in my 30L bag. However, if you shoot sunset/sunrise AND you grade your footage a lot, like Sam Kolder style then you might wana get the 2 Pro or phantom

The air is also below 500 grams which makes many local laws not apply to it. Many European laws for example start for drones 500 grams or more. I am allowed to fly my mavic air over crowds etc whereas a mavic pro would not be allowed (just an example, check your local laws first)

You can't trust Casey's drone footage, he gets all the math wrong with his FPS. The Mavic 2 Pro is a significant step up from Mavic 1.

Blake, Video is filled with tons of little details that make or break your footage. Math plays a part in a lot of it. For smooth footage you will want to follow the 180° rule. If you are shooting at 24 frames per second, you want your shutter speed to be "double" that, i.e. 1/48. This gives you some nice motion blur for that "cinematic" look. If you are shooting 60fps your shutter should be 1/120. On a DJI drone shooting in the bright sun, you will need to use ND (neutral density filters) to cut the amount of light coming in so you can get closer to the correct target shutter speed. If your shutter speed is too fast due to bright sun, your footage will looked warped (jelly effect). Next you have to have the correct setup for your timeline. Here's an easy example... if your timeline is 30fps and you bring in 60fps footage, you have twice the frames needed which allows you to slow the clip down to 50% or simply leave it at 100%. If you try to slow it down to 55% the number of frames shot no longer matches the fps of the timeline and the editing program has to make some adjustments, which results in choppy footage. So if Casey shoots in 24fps but edits in 30, the footage will not match mathematically and it will look choppy. Make sense? I'm sure there are more detailed explanations on youtube somewhere.
