Michael Accorsi GoPro usually has a flat color option and a regular option. The flat option has duller colors to be able to retain more information (detail and color differences) so when you color grade you have more flexibility. Color grading is basically color correcting to have eveything look consistent. Becaude every camera shoots differently (with different interpatations of colors and brightness etc), you color grade when using multiple cameras. You also color grade to set a tone (like how Terminator 2 always had a blueish tint in night scenes) When Breaking Bad used GoPros in the lab scenes, it looked consistent color wise even though different cameras were used. Thats because they color graded it to correct it. TL;DR: You can color grade anything to make them look extremely similar color wise

Definitely aware of this - I'm a filmographer. The issue is naturally the sensor in the Karma and Mavik isn't picking up on them. Saturating your video with color in post isn't the solution when you need to pull the video on a larger screen format. Its noticeable. Honestly the 3 shoots fine for me and I'll wait for the 2nd, 3rd iteration of the Mavik or hybrid or whatever they are making next.

I feel like from a production standpoint, the Karma would be preferable, because its more neutral image would definitely give you more latitude in post for color. Although as far as I know, both cameras have a "flat" picture profile anyway. But what do I know? It'll be a long time before I can afford a drone at all.

I think people should be aware that when Casey flew the Phantom 4 it may have been in Sport mode which allows the drone to go faster but also means that the propellers get seen in the video. In this test the propellers effect what the image looks like for the Phantom 4. Flying the DJI Phantom 4 in normal mode without seeing the propellers is superior to the quality of the GoPro Karma.

Maybe you should also make some research why sharp footage is not used for professional use , small tip: professional editors and video makers prefer to add their sharpness manually in post, that's why gopro has sharpness turn off by default, but if you like sharper image you just have to enable the amount of sharpness via the menu.. about the greener video> it looks casey shot the gopro footage in protune which retains high dynamic range and looks washed out, for professional use this is the best option to preserve contrast and highlights intact and allow better color grading..

Actually its because of the builitin polarizer in the GoPro which reduces the waters reflections which reveals the actual color instead of the sky being reflected to the water which is giving you the blues

I'm sure Casey has spent time getting the color profile right for the DJI, the GoPro was probably out of the box settings. Also once he changes the GoPro to "linear mode" for the picture that will help the look before he gets into color settings.

I think the Go Pro offers more like the gimbal, the controller and the back pack, but I think the DJI is a better drone overall. I think GoPro's intent was to offer more of a package, but if you just want a drone the mavic and phantom seem to be better.

Great idea to get the same shot with both drones which no one else seems to do. Thanks! The propeller shadows at 7:50 on the Phantom are a real issue for nearly all drones with the camera mounted underneath when shooting at midday. You could do us all a HUGE favor Casey if you went out with these two drones plus your Mavic, get the same shot under real world conditions, then show us what the quality looks like AT FULL FRAME - cropping it so we can look at the center and the edges at 4k, but zoomed in. The GoPro karma's camera is really flexible for post processing and it allows for more color grading and such unlike the phantom. But they're both great drones and both have their ups and downs

How's it possible that the Karma-GoPro is so vastly inferior to the Phantom 4 when it comes to the quality of the footage? Just look at 8:08 and freeze the movie there: See the grass patches? Phantom 4 shows a crisp picture with recognizable grass, Karma shows mushy green patches. Same for the footprints in the sand.
