DJI Mavic 2 Pricing & Purchase: bit.ly/2P0qKyt
The DJI Mavic 2 series builds on the success of the Mavic Pro and and takes aerial photography and video to the next level. The Mavic 2 Pro features a Hasselblad camera with a 1" sensor. And the Mavic 2 Zoom features a 24mm - 48mm optical zoom lens to move you closer to the action. I've had an opportunity to fly and shoot with the Mavic 2 Zoom for several weeks now and have really enjoyed the upgraded flight experience that it offers and the amazing things you can do with the camera. The optical zoom is a feature you have to see to believe. And the new quick shots, hyperlapse and dolly-zoom are every bit as innovative and interesting as you would expect from a new DJI drone with a major software update. To me, this looks to be my new go-to drone for travel and any kind of non-professional shooting I plan to do in the future. Check out the video and see what you think. Please be sure to comment below and I will try to answer as many questions about the Mavic 2 Zoom as I can.

One thing worth noting is that although the mavic 2 pro has a larger aperture, the mavic 2 zoom actually has better pixel density. The mavic 2 pro comes in at 2.0 cm per pixel, where the zoom comes in at 1.4 cm per pixel. That's a substantial difference in detail! So if you're doing mapping work, the zoom will definitely give you more bang for your buck. That being said, having a smaller field of view, you will need to capture 3 photos with the zoom to cover the same ground as the pro. So it will take three times longer... But with better results

I think with these long awaited releases and reviewers saying how terrific everything is, it generates a “monkey see, monkey want” situation... If you’re going fishing, you start by deciding what fish you’re pursuing. So if on a small mountain stream with only small trout present,you would use #14-16 size flies which would need a very light fly line and a suitably light rod. If it’s heavy salmon on a major river it’d be great big flies and line/rod to suit. Applying that principle to drones... If holiday quick shots are the most you’ll use yours for, get a Spark. If it’s true Pro grade footage that your livelihood depends on, a starting point might be the Inspire series. At least. But for most average droners who aren’t especially skilful either at flying or filming, (since filming is an art form all its own) I do wonder how many of these high grade Mavic and Phantom machines get pushed to truly earn the massive cost of purchase? By “earn” I don’t mean money, since non licensed guys can’t do that. I mean in the reward felt by seeing nice footage, imaginatively shot. I see so much video posted to KZbin where the poster takes off, often whacks it up to 3-400ft (because he can) and generally cruises around recording not much more than a moving “still” photograph, if that makes sense. I tend to think that instead of buying religiously the latest upgraded version, it’d be infinitely more satisfying to learn how to shoot better quality, improved video with what you already have - assuming you do already have one, that is... Because so many of the bells & whistles that manufacturers add to spice up a product at a relaunch might read really great on a spec sheet - because “more” ALWAYS equals “better”, guys??? Right??? But does it really? All drones have a zoom already fitted. (It’s called the Right Stick) Just as all cameras had zoom ability long before zoom lenses were invented, it was alternatively known as “walking”. I feel the temptation to get one of these new birds as well, despite the above. But I’m not getting one. Because as yet I still haven’t found the limits of my existing mini-squadron of expensive DJI birds. Except if you include tilted horizons, that is... with both P4 and MavPro. And every quad I might add to that squadron means that each one will be used progressively less and less, because opportunities to fly don’t increase just because I got a new copter. Successive rounds of buying turn us from drone fliers into drone collectors. Which is maybe just fine if your bankbook has big fat balances in it, but if your goal is merely to shoot better and better footage, are you being limited at present by your drone? Really?? Or by being too lazy to learn how to fly it better, or learn how to plan your flights better? Or by not mastering the camera’s settings to best advantage? I’ve been guilty on all those charges, by the way. But from now I’m going to stress much more on learning to use better what I already have, rather than buying the latest super duper FrankWang’s finest all singing all dancing doohickey. This trap is one I’ve fallen into previously. Right now I couldn’t tell you exactly how many fly rods I own , not even to the nearest 5. That’s plainly ridiculous, but to allow a similar process to continue with drones would be, to say the least, - wasteful of resources, which in my case are very far from limitless. At present I’m flying a P4 standard, a MavAir, and a MavPro. The first and last occupy to a large extent a fairly similar duty area with me, while the Air’s strength is in close range controllability and sharp video of (to my eyes) excellent quality, added to matchless portability. It’s a buzzy wee bugger, but I never fly near people so that counts for nothing for me. All three machines are far better quads than I am a flier or a videographer, and I suspect that (at my age) that’s likely to remain that way. So. NO Mavic #2 for me! Although that Hasselblad camera was a giant attraction! (I’d really like to think that I can stick to this abstemious principle, but history might at some point have a different story to tell... Meanwhile, I’m a holdout.)

I realize this video is over a year old now however I own a zoom which I use for commercial work and also hobby. One factor related to the zoom is manual exposure and why it does not work well with the zoom. When zooming in or out the field of view changes and the images go from bright to dim in drastic fashion. For this drone auto exposure works very well and when zooming is mandatory for good results.

Every time one of those new drones come out I always do the same thing. I get it from somewhere with a good return policy, fire up lychee, and start setting autonomous routes that literally push the battery to the max... And let it go. I started with the phantom 3 and I've done it with every higher priced dji drone since. There's something about the thrill I get when I push "go" and essentially throw a thousand dollars into the wind and wait to see if it comes back. Then... I return it to the store I can't wait to do this with the mavic 2
@ZanesFacebook
@ZanesFacebook 5 жыл бұрын
@Kay how so? Because I fly without LOS? Or because I use return policies that are massively advertised? In either case I don't think I'm "screwing up" anything. Because in both instances I'm not impressed with where the drone technology is yet and I don't feel like the purchase price is worth it. It's not quite to the point where I can say "Yea, I can justify this purchase" Not quite

Thanks Kelly, great review and feedback on the Zoom model. Sounds like a lot of exciting capabilities. Mate, I've looked up the Goggle compatibility information on the DJI Products webpage and they list both the DJI RE and standard Goggles as working with the Mavic 2. Note 4. The White DJI Goggles support a 2.4 GHz frequency band only, while the DJI Goggles RE support both 2.4/5.8 GHz frequency bands and real-time auto-switching for better performance. DJI Goggles RE can only connect to the Mavic 2 with firmware 01.00.0600 or above via DJI Assistant 2 on a computer. Firmware 01.00.0600 will be launched at the end of August, 2018. Please stay tuned. The Mavic 2 is compatible with DJI Goggles with the gimbal (yaw) control range up to -75°-- +75° in Head Tracking mode, offering users a more immersive FPV flight experience.

Thanks for the video review! I just bought this drone upgrading from the Mavic Air. I paired it with the smart controller for the brighter screen and less fiddliness. The Mavic Air is a fantastic drone but I had a lot of trouble with lost image transmission (wifi) and the active track would only work for 20 seconds before losing me. So far I'm loving the responsiveness of the zoom with smart controller. Getting in the air is quicker and I can fly longer with the bigger battery. Also, so far, I haven't had to do a compass calibration - not even once, which I had to do almost every time I flew with the Mavic Air. All good stuff!
