i Salute the Captain for preferring the Zoom! With the new low noise motors, it's almost silent when it's in a decent range, Zooming is very crucial, you could zoom in without annoying the people and the birds around you, money was never an issue to me, i bought the zoom simply because of it's zooming capabilities!

I love the crisp, sharp video quality of the zoom, however the colors on the pro are richer with greater depth and range. In low light the pro 2 wins in bright sun it's a close call.

As others have said, the Pro version does have more dynamic range, but it's less sharp. Any video (still image as well) can be color corrected and that correction can be saved as a "preset" for other clips. Another name for a "preset" is "LUT." The Zoom does produce a cleaner, clearer and crisper image. Both versions have the same drone . The only difference is the camera. There's a video here on KZbin where a guy actually takes off one (Pro)camera and places it on the other (Zoom) camera and it works just fine. Kind of expensive to have both. I am very disappointed in DJI/Hassleblad in its efforts to put its name on this camera. Seems to me, as a photographer/videographer of many years, my eye is telling my brain that the Zoom is the choice to make. I'd say some who are buying the Pro version are doing to out of "bragging rights."

Def not as sharp on MP2, but better in low light. Softness is greater in MP2, Zoom looks better more resolved.

I enjoy your videos. The Mavic 2 Pro video is noticeably better in your videos. The details in the trees, water, and most everything is superior to the M2Z in your videos. In addition, the variable aperture function in the M2P is a huge benefit. I shot some video at f11 and h.264 (not even the best settings) in some large rocks and the sharpness of the foreground and background created a very cool effect, something I never saw with my beloved Mavic Pro at f2.8. However the greatest advantage of the M2P 1” sensor is shooting stills. Photos are superior to the smaller sensor of the M2Z. When a great photograph is taken, which can often happen because of a drone’s ability to get a unique perspective, most will notice a difference in even 8x10 and certainly larger print sizes.

"Out of the can" footage is going to be similar I guess, but with the Pro the video looks far better once graded. Also, whilst jpeg photos may look similar photographers spending this amount of money on a drone will be looking for raw files and I am pretty sure the Pro will produce far better results in Lightroom than the Zoom. As for the basic footage, I would say the Zoom was crisper but the Pro was better in other aspects (and you can increase the sharpness from default in the app anyway). That said, for many shots the zoom function would be so good.

M2P is softer, warmer and better dynamic range but the Zoom looks impressive and aside from low light performance, the Zoom can really hold its own. Seeing as I fly my Phantom 4 Pro when I want best image quality, I think I will be going with the Mavic 2 Zoom for a bit of variety especially where neither Mavic 2 can shoot 4k 60.

The comparison is something I've been waiting for and in a hobbyist eyes you can see a difference but think both have amazing images especially for the size of the camera's. I purchased the M2Z and mainly for the zoom part but I think it still gives me beautiful video and photos and I've only been shooting in 1080p. I can't view 4K and 95% of the people I know also can't view 1080 so I figure why use up all that storage. I believe here in the near future 4K will be the norm as 1080p became. But still happy with my zoom image. If I was in the business of photography or selling my images then yes I'd own the best but as a hobbyist I'm happy with my choice plus I want to enjoy my flying experience not always trying to find something wrong with it. IMHO and from a personal perspective - I still think the Pro edges it. The clarity is just nice and the colours come out more, but not too much. I think the zoom feature on the Zoom is something that most people will never use. Both very nice cameras/drones and frankly if I was to be given either I would be very thankful.

Could you please make a comparison of Pro's HQ mode and Zoom on 48mm? I would like to see the difference in FOV and image quality in those two images, as the more zoomed footage the better for me and I don't know which drone to choose. It would be awesome if you could also crop both above mentioned from 4K to ~100mm in post to show real differences in quality.

Captain! Excellent video review of both Mavic 2’s! Images on both were incredible. When in comes to photography (including aerial photography), I have come to the conclusion that the quality of the image always rests in the eye of the beholder. I know that is an old saying, but it is nonetheless true! As I have told you before, I have a Phantom 4 Pro+Obsidian, Mavic 2 Pro, Yuneec H Plus, and an Autel Evo. They are all great drones, with great cameras, but there are more times than not that I can distinguish which image came from which drone! Can’t wait for the comparison with the Anafi! Excellent review as always, Captain!😃🛩 P.S. I would like to see you do a in-depth review between the Mavic 2 Pro images and Autel Evo.

This is a question for everyone: what would lead you to buy a $1500 camera drone to shoot it in auto camera settings? As someone who shoots weddings, music videos, and corporate videos I want to be the first person to tell you that you can buy something far cheaper and get similar results if you’re only going to leave the camera in auto. In auto most things look equally as “meh, it’ll do”. it’s like buying a Mustang and only driving it at 15mph... at 15mph it behaves pretty much like a Hyundai so why not just buy the Hyundai? You can get a Hubsan X4 ($350) or a MJX bugs 3 ($150) if you don’t plan on learning how to manually control your (ISO, Shutter Speed, Fstop, framerate, white balance) so why spend the extra money?

Because of the range the sensors the ease of use and if we want to learn we already have to tool to do so and it's there money not yours and I have a spark and just love to fly it around I'm no professional pilot I'm just here to have fun

I'm also the proud owner of a mavic 2 zoom and it is an awesome drone. I love it. I have tested it in some wind and I was terrified at first. But I did hover for a little while and it handled incredibly well. The camera for a 12MP it's great. It may not be as great as the Pro, but it's still pretty damn good.

EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! On KZbin what the highest resolution on a 3K Galaxy Note 9 screen.. quality-wise I can't tell the difference.. but brightness wise an exposure they're both a little different but both good.. the real difference obviously you'll see at your house on your 4K television or monitor.. I have P4PV2.0 and M2Z, but I think that M2P and M2Z do not the difference so much except for nightscape shooting. Night view noise is still 1 inch sensor is strong. I think that there is a little difference in the dark places of forests and the like during the day.

I own both the M2P and the Zoom and I’m still trying to figure out which camera is better! The 2 Pro is definitely better in low light but I don’t fly much at night for obvious reasons of it’s not permitted. I also own lots of other drones (DJI) Mavic Air, Mavic Pro, 2 P4P’s,2 Inspire1’s X3 X5, and the Spark but always result back to the Phantom 4 Pro’s if it’s not about portability to get a good shot. I really don’t think the Mavic Air gets the recognition it deserves because the quality is fantastic and the hand gestures are Kool when you want to show off a little!! Lol Good video can’t wait for the Anafi comparison as I been considering buying that also!

Once both mavics were launched I thought that my option was "no brainer" with mavic 2 Pro but after seeing a lot of video comparisons and the fact that M2Z has the option of high resolution images now I am very confusing what would be the right option for me. Most people would not notice the difference between the two cameras. If you wish to take pictures or video when the sun has set then the Mavic 2 Pro would produce a better image by a little bit over the Mavic 2 Zoom. The Mavic 2 Zoom seems to be the better deal for what you pay and what you get if 99% of your photos and video are taken during the day.

Very good comparison guy's, generally I thought the video for the Pro had more sharpness, however given the price difference the Zoom is more bang for your buck. Also the Phantom 4 still has the better camera, so if it's quality rather than portability your after, the P 4 is the way to go.

not sure about more Dynamic Range for the Pro, it looks like the Zoom has a higher contrast and the white point is bluer. I would guess the zoom maybe able to hit a similar color and an appearance of dynamic range by adjusting these two area's (contrast and white point)

Definitely more dynamic range on Pro version straight out of the camera even with KZbin compression affecting both.. the zoom seems a little more washed out. it might be interesting to see how they both grade in post when using log modes to record video. Sharpness of auto focus is roughly equal at least to my eye. Small details seem better with Pro version.

You spoiled this video for me when you said the S word... We know it's coming, but did you have to remind us??? Incidentally, I shoot 4K60 all the time on my Typhoon H, since you can pull very respectable still frames from the video. This avoids the terrible shutter lag when shooting in stills mode.

Having years of practice in landscape photography,using both full frame and "cropped sensors",I find the Pro 2 has a much more natural look.Less punchy and not overly sharpened(which I would rather control in post). I also find the Pro2 opens up the shadows better The Pro2 is my pick for overall image quality.

Everything identical... Well, if you own a Mavic 2 Pro you'll see that there is no color style... so basically it is set to default. Sharpness, contrast, etc were the same. By default the Mavic 2 Zoom has a sharper image than the Mavic 2 Pro. You have to turn down the sharpness on the Mavic 2 Zoom if you wish to post process the image.

How critical is it in pointing the controller exactly at the drone for with ocusync? I’ve seen some videos with people standing to the side and still getting pretty far. I know with my old phantom it was pretty important to point right at the drone, but didn’t know if it was as important with ocusync or not.

It doesn't matter when you are flying in an open area, until you get to around a mile. If there are trees and hills around, then it is best if you point it in the general direction when getting close to a mile.

The dynamic range on the Pro is so much better. Look at the trees on your 3D vid sample, on the Zoom you can only see black, on the Pro you can see... trees :)

The Zoom on the ANAFI compared to the Zoom on the Mavic 2 is very close. You can see a difference in image quality, but the ANAFI's image is massively acceptable considering it is using a digital lossless zoom. You'll see the comparison tomorrow.

I don't think you can change the FPS in the same video.. so If you exported your video in 30FPS, you can't really see the 60FPS

Dor Yovel Exactly. My editing software drops the 60 to 30. The reason for the 60 test is in how it is recorded in the camera.... sometimes not very well and you get aliasing around objects. That would show even if a 60 FPS was dropped to 30 FPS in post. Both cameras did well.

Again, another video that concludes the main differences. The Pro has a better color depth range while the Zoom is Sharper. If in was going to buy one, it would he the zoom for the sharpness. Dji should go with a different actual better lense next model.

In this video yes, all images are in 4K full FOV unless otherwise noted. There is only the one time that I placed the Mavic 2 Pro into HQ mode which causes the image to be cropped in close.

Hello Capitain ;) I'm looking for a drone, not to take video, but to take photography. I'm doing a lot of landscape photography on my pastime and since some months I'm looking for a drone to shoot photos from heigt or angle that my camera cannot does (excepted if I have a 100m tall tower with me... whatever where I am). So I'm looking for a Mavic, because it will be the most convenient for me, but I'm hesitating between the 2 pro and the 2 zoom. The 2 pro look to have the best camera with a big sensor, but it is pretty expensive and, if I'm mostly doing photography, I think I'll pay a lot for functions I will never use. The 2 zoom looks to be more attractive for me, I think the zoom can be useful in a lot of situation, from isolating a detail in the landscape from playing to the depth with the zoom.. Even if the camera sensor is smaller, with your video I see the quality of the zoom is pretty amazing, even compared to the 2 pro. So I'm still hesitating, but, from your advice, which one a non-professional photographer should choose to does (nearly) only aerial photography ?

Well, if it is just photos, then either will do. The Zoom can take landscape photos of non-moving objects and patch them all together to make something like a 45 Meg high res photo. The Pro would be just a touch better in low light (see more in the shadows), but for the price difference, I'd go for the Zoom.

The 2 pro look to be perfect for videos but, I think the zoom will be better for me. I'll check others reviews, but I'm more and more thinking about the zoom. Thank you for your reply :)

Concerning the M2P soft video in 4K FOV, has anyone tested by varying just the aperture in small steps form high to low? I'm curious if there is a sweet spot where the softness can be mitigated. If the Zoom had better dynamic range I would be inclined to go with it.

For me to be honest, many many times better the Pro. The colors are superb and I do actually like just a bit softer the image since the other one looks a bit to digitally sharpened. I don´t like that. Even with the whole fuzz about the 1-inch sensor and not being so crisp on the FPV, still, I think there´s no much to compare. Clear winner to me, the Mavic 2 Pro. Forget about shooting at dusk or dawn, that will absolutely kill the Zoom.

Hi Captain Drone, i just wanna hear from you, about i crashed my Mavic 2 Pro a weeks ago(3yrs after the date of purchase)on Bulk Carrier Ship side during my Ship side photo capture as the obstruction sensor did not work and continues drifting of the Mavic 2 Pro until it Crash the ship side and fall into the Sea(probably because i got slow internet connection and error that distructed downloading Firmware update thru laptop Computer). Do you think this is the cause of crashing my Mavic 2 Pro?, is it possible to use my remain Mavic 2 Pro Remote Controller to Bind/Link to Mavic 2 Zoom?. Dji Support advice me to send email to them in order to assess whether the cause of crashed is to be compensate by Dji as per After Sales Policy Rgrds & Thanks in advance to hear from you(Your long time Subscriber here/Licensed Drone Pilot)

Too bad m2 pro is line skipping in full fov 4k for marketing reason or overheating. That's why there's a HQ mode with lower fov. Waste of money if you want p4 pro quality, which uses exact same sensor. Zoom is better deal cause it can add another dynamic to your shots vs just the 5 axises.

It's not only one video, there's lots of comparison videos showing m2 pro being softer in detail and bending the horizon. It has the same sensor and processor as p4 yet it does worse than air.

Saying the image is softer is fine and accurate, not denying that. but there is no line slipping going on. Line skipping would produce different results. Sharpness is not everything- several cinema grade camera are not as sharp as cheaper nikon cameras- the color, dynamic range, noise (as well as added artificial sharpness) and filming modes are more important than sharpness differences at 300%. All cameras have lens distortion. Normally it is fixed in camera. The mp2 does not have lens distortion in normal mode- however when filming in h.265 and 10bit the processor is maxed out and cant also correct the distortion (if it did you would lose image quality). Since dlog-footage has to be graded/edited anyways, dji assumed that you could also add a simple correction while editing the video. The sensor is too warm though.

Thierry Schu. Schuller did notice that he was seeming to rush this a bit. I normally also really enjoy his videos. Only thing I can think is he’s trying to get to much info in two videos but I’d rather see a three part video and be able to enjoy his comparisons.

Thierry Schu. Schuller I had about 2 hours worth of filming to drop into two 10 min vids. In today's world I purposely keep videos short and tight for the shorter attention span generation audience. I'll try and cut down on the coffee but no promises. :-)

CAPTAIN DRONE that’s kinda what I was thinking and saying to him when replying to his post about with the amount of information you are trying to get in and you are exactly right about todays attention spans. People want info and stuff fast and now and I think we lose so much by living like that. I truly enjoy your videos and alway look forward to your post cause I’m able to tell you honestly enjoy what you do and don’t do it for products or other gains and that’s why I believe the companies that ask you to review there product know you’re going to give your honest opinion but also know you enjoy the hobby and will give the viewer a honest and complete review to your abilities. Lol a comparison like this is like shooting a inspire drone in auto vs a Mavic or using a DSLR in auto or driving a Ferrari in first gear .. you really need to throw them both in manual, grade the footage and get the best out of them to see the difference. The Mavic 2 Pro with 10 bit colour capabilities wins by a mile.

Mick, you may be a junior photographer with such talk. I know where you're coming from but such comments are what we see from junior photographers. I have a video out (that you should check out) where I color graded the SPARK footage against the MAVIC 2 PRO. When you color grade footage or when you use manual settings, you are essentially selecting the outcome of the comparison which is unfair. If I suck at color grading I could make a decent drone look pretty bad. If I'm color blind, or happen to be staring at my tablet or phone and the lighting is not good, I'm going to mess up the exposure and the color. So, once again, I hear what you're saying, but in the pro world when we hear such comments we know they are coming from someone who is just getting into drones and photography and is repeating what they read or what someone said to them. Now.... If I fly one drone (not a comparison), then I can do all the manual settings I want and all the color grading I want but in a comparison, that would be massively unfair. Cheers buds.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I also understand what you're saying but I've been flying these things for half a decade , gone through about all of DJIs inventory and selling prints regularly. I rarely shoot videos but this isn't a new "hobby" for me mate. The problem with shooting auto is every automatic mode is setup differently , the Mavic 2 Pro isn't made to be used in auto mode just like a inspire 2 drone isn't. The white balance is completely off and people who absolutely know nothing (who are the newbies you're talking about not me) see the comparisons and assume one is better than the other based on that or the dynamic range or sharpness from one may not look as nice as the other in automatic because each drone has manipulated those settings differently. If you're doing those comparisons I think you should be mentioning that you can get much better results from one or the other in manual mode. Sure you don't have to be the best in post but applying a simply DJI lut that is downloadable on their site with the Mavic /inspire drones to either in DLOG footage and exporting it here will reveal a lot more about each drones capabilities especially once you export h265 footage. If you honestly compare footage from a inspire 2 x5 drone next to a Mavic 2 / p4p / Mavic air you probably wouldn't tell the difference in automatic on KZbin.
