My only problem with Kidd is him constantly allowing Mavs players to cheat off open 3 point shooters to double players where it's not needed. I get you have no choice but to double Embiid, but they've got guys leaving Tatum open at the 3 pt line to double Derrick White in the post. WTF??? Boston shot over 50% from 3 and they're STILL leaving guys open at the line either to double or just to cheat toward the lane for rebounding position. It absolutely killed them in this game. As much as I love Luka he was back to his old style of defense in this game, but he definitely wasn't the only one.

Kidd is supposed to be a defensive guy. He made it clear that he needed size and length to win. Yet it’s even more clear that he doesn’t make his players work on defense. What's the point of getting bigger to go up against bigger teams like the Celtics if Kidd is gonna go with 4 guards & a not too much of an inside threat big man? I had been looking forward to the Celtics game cause I thought it'd be a good test for the new big lineup that Kidd could use. Maybe even possible to see some Lively AND Gafford together for a few minutes while Maxi gets some rest. But nope. And how does Lively get like ZERO minutes after he leaves in the 2nd half when the dude was FEASTING? The ONLY time the defense looked good was that stretch with Lively in the 2nd half when the Mavs got to within like 3 points. But we never saw Lively again and ended up getting destroyed by 28. The Mavs have been hurt all season. Injuries and injuries. Now it’s time for a real rotation. Timmy kept us in games early this season, but now he’s back to Geico Timmy. Exum can’t stay healthy enough to trust him. Rotation should be the starting 5 with Gafford, Jones Jr, Hardy and Exum if he can play a stretch of 5 games. Unfortunately we don’t have a viable 3rd option. I say let Hardy at it bc he can at least, create his own shot.

This is not just baseless hating mind you. I think it's only fair to compare how good a coach is with the guy they replaced. Rick Carlisle won a championship for us and was in the playoffs multiple times from 2008-2021. His Pacers team in 03-04 was the first seed with a 61-21 record. Just compare Kidd's tenure with the Mavs to Carlisle's first 3 years as a Mavs coach: 50-32 in 08-09, 55-27 in 09-10 and 57-25 and a championship in 10-11. Kidd is nowhere near that kind of success.

You can’t make a sound argument if the initial premise is flawed. Luka and Kyrie’s defense on the perimeter is atrocious. Luka’s defensive numbers look good when you consider post defense which is what our eyes see, because in the post you’re not beaten by agility, moreover strength. On the perimeter, Luka gets his steals by recovering deflections and creeping behind defenders as their backs are turned away from him. Therefore, the numbers are showing something that isn’t true, but our eyes are not failing us. Same with Kyrie, he can’t guard a parked car and he’s too small for a lot of today’s players(weight wise). They’ll just seek him out through screening. So why do I point this out? I point this out because the weaker your perimeter players are the more you’ll have to use a zone defense. With a zone defense your rotations have to be spot on. Due to players flying by Luka and Kyrie, it forces Lively to pop up. As soon as he does, the wing player for the opposing team will run straight to the paint. If Kyrie is guarding the corner, he will be stuck under the paint guarding Kristaps or that bigger defender. We saw this, so you don’t think these Head Coaches don’t see this?!? If the Mavs bring in another big defender to help with this problem, they’ll just keep their center towards the 3 point line, thus bringing Lively out of rotation. Now Luka is being beaten easily and the only help he has is Green and Pj. Which then leaves their guy for the 3. This is a Luka and Kyrie problem. He can’t bench them!!

D-Live should be playing 30 minutes a game including the 4th. Gafford every other second he's out. Play maxi at the 4 situationally. Maxi averages like 0 or 1 fucking three. Maxi also can't guard the perimeter. FFS.
