Max Canada Lynx Christmas 2016

Max gets a leather bunny for Christmas and a chance to roll in the snow. By the way, the bunny is not filled with catnip. It's a dog toy that I hope will be indestructible. Max loves leather and is always rubbing his face on my shoes or work gloves.
For those who don't know Max weighs 40 pounds. He is not a pet but an educational animal ambassador. He does the showing, I do the educating. He doesn't live in my house but has his own indoor and outdoor enclosure.

The Sand Cat is completely wild... and is SMALLER than the Singapura domestic cat breed. A male Singapura gets to be about 6 pounds. The females about 4 pounds and that’s full grown. The Sand Cat are smaller than that.

Too many are getting the wrong impression here of the Lynx... and even of Max himself. Don’t ever forget Max is what he is and his physical capabilities. I’ll put it to you this way... would you ever go up to a Canadian/North American Lynx which is the version of the Lynx that Max is and give it a hug? Max is No Different.... you are only seeing human socialization here. He still has the same instincts here and the same physical capabilities here. All the human socialization in the world isn’t going to change that.

To a point... but at the same time... tell that to the person mauled and or killed by them. The bigger the cat is... the more they know their own abilities and will use them. These cats... talking about Max for example because he is the one being shown here... these cats are A LOT BIGGER IN PERSON than they look in pictures and TV. As they remark here... Look at the Canadian/North American Lynx paws. That is everyone’s first clue as to just how BIG these cats really are and what they are capable of. The Lynx family aren’t bad cats and neither are any cats in any other Family of cats. They just are what they are... and there are real dangers here. There are wrong impressions here made of Max himself and the Lynx Family and yes SIZE DOES MATTER where physical abilities of killing is concerned. It is NOT to say that the bigger cats cannot love a human like any other animal can. Yes they absolutely CAN... but because of their sizes... the dangers increase or decrease. I love Max too... but like any Cat... he cannot be trained like a dog either. I just don’t want any wrong impressions that these cats are house cats just bigger in the sense of their being pets. That’s what gets them hurt and killed because they make that mistake. They are exactly like house cats in the sense that they are what they are.

"Domestic" cats aren't truly domestic. They're half-domestic descendants of African wildcats that we kept around and started breeding for looks later on. Otherwise they remain largely unchanged. There are videos of fully wild African wildcats right here on KZbin behaving exactly like people's housecats.

Cats are cats, humans really haven't done much of anything to alter cat behavior. A tabby housecat has mostly the same set of instincts and behaviors that a North African wildcat does. The only thing "domestic" cats have really had done to them they already did to themselves; cats that couldn't tolerate humans would flee human settlements, cats that didn't mind us stayed and got food, lived longer, and bred more. At any rate "normal" is what we know and see regularly. Owning a car is normal for me, for someone in Amsterdam riding a bike everywhere is normal.

Buy big cats don't go for laser dots....there is an "experiment" on YT of someone who tried laser dots and cats' reactions from housecat up to jaguars and lions....the bigger ones didn't know what to do with it, but the caracals loved it if I remember right...

The guy doing this experiment explained that bigger cats don't hunt the laser point, which has the size of a small bug, simply because because it isn't worth spending the energy on a prey so small. privatexxxx Sure, but it's interesting they didn't even move once, not because they have interest in it as they consider it to be food, but for pure fun. Climate could be a point though, usually they life in temperatures where moving a lot "for fun" would be not economic at all....Would be interesting if subadult lions or jaguars showed more interest in a laser, as they often play hunt for training. Btw.a funny job, holding a laser pointer in front of cats of all sizes to watch them hunt. Or not - hunt. ^^

He is just divine in every way. No reason to be surprised why the egyptian loved these animals... Egyptian temple cats are closely related to both lynx and the serval. For some reason I can't comment down below. But of course, as I live in Norway, which is a land of lynx', I certainly meant that they revered the majestetic shape and personality of the whole family of cats, not lynx specifically...

Maybe 35 years ago, on a sunny Thanksgiving afternoon, I definitely know it was a Canada Lynx that I saw sitting outside on a step going into a shed we had. It was a beautiful sight to behold and I will never forget it. This was in upstate NY that this sighting occurred.

Maureen H, How awesome it must have been to see a lynx in the wild. They disappeared from NY state around 2002 and are now what they call "extirpated" (locally extinct). Max knows when I use his full name, he's in trouble. Sometimes he listens, sometimes not. lol

As a rescue kitten he should be happy he got a good home. Sure it's not the wild but owner takes him for walks everyday and his kennel is massive filled with fun stuff to play with. It would be so beautiful to see him with a friend kitties for friendship. But like all cat I'm sure he likes his space too. So really is beautiful handsome young man of a cat.

Methinks Mr Max was VERY happy with his Christmas present!! Oh I hope I can work with some of these special critters again one day... I miss it SO much! I co-founded a wildlife organization when I was just 17, cared for, nurtured and released everything from newborn "flying squirrels" to a couple of retired elephants from a circus at a wildlife rehab & retirement facility about 13yrs ago. (And MANY in-between!) Then I was in an accident, (involving critters, of course, although it wasn't her fault-my horse got spooked and bucked me), and because of my health & other things, haven't been able to get back to what I love-except rescuing a few kitties 😊😸. I move back South to be near my kids next year who REALLY want to see Mom surrounded by critters again, so we shall see!! 😊

Awww - he's one of those odd-balls :D I have a kitty who loves any room scent, toilet fresheners and smells from stuff like strawberry jam, lemons and gasoline. He's a therapy/company cat in my clinic (and also take naps on the keyboard to assist my secretary's work) he is always near freshly cleansed, sterilized and freshened areas and varieties of scents from all the pets and humans he can sniff over the counter, so he's one little happy guy. I sometimes have to send him "home" upstairs (I live on the 1th floor of my clinic) otherwise he will try to get into the handbag of owners of my patients to sniff the leather or will hang out at the toilet that patients owners also use. And he will not be taken away from that toilet without protesting and although he's just a Norwegian Forest and not a wildcat, he's heavy. One fourth of my weight to be specific.

They do - Even cats who arent to be touched, can offer so much joy and wellbeing for people just by their presence. Ive placed quite a few cats in homes for elderly, children's psychologist offices, public (safely enclosed) parks, farms etc. Where I live its illegal for pet animals to be strays or feral so any cat that I get in, must go to a shelter for socialization/adoption into forever homes. Some cats will never be pet housecats and as we only have no kill shelters (all shelters are state owned) no cats can be put down. So, although I'm just a volunteer vet at my local shelter, I've been involved in quite a few placements of cats who needed homes and are an comfort but also needed to not be pets.

No... difference in species. You over feed your kitty and keep doing it.. you will make it over weight. Cats no matter what the species are sensitive to everything... if your ca ever needed surgery and had to be put under a General... it would have more chances of dying on the table than a Cat of normal weight. The closest thing you can get to a Cat like this is the biggest domestic cat breeds. The Maine Coon... Norwegian Forest Cat... the Siberian... these cats weigh in the range of 25 pounds AND ARE HUUUUGGGEEE for domestic cats. With these breeds of domestic cat... you had better be ready for the amount of food requirement they are going to need. They need ALOT of food for their normal weight requirements.

Our cat Benni loved to play in the snow. He wasn't a lynx, just a very very big cat. My mother would joke and say that there was timberwolf in his background. Watching this lovely boy go at this patch of snow with those huge paws shows me how a lynx would get at mice under the snow.
