MAX DRIVER BATTLE: TAYLORMADE SIM 2 MAX Vs PING G425 MAX DRIVER

Tried both of these in the simulator. When i would connect with the sim2, i would out drive the g425 at least 10 to 15yds. But that's when i connected, other hits, it would hook for me. I walked out with the g425 bc it was so much easier to hit, tweaking the weight helped my left to right movement. I'd admit it's not as long as the sim 2 but I'd take 15yds further to the pin than 15yds in the weeds.

Not sure how you declare the Taylormade the winner here. Isn't the purpose of a MAX driver to be more forgiving on mis-hits? Looking at the distance and efficiency numbers, the drop off from best to worst balls was far less with the Ping than the Taylormade. Unless there was significant drop off in overall performance, which there wasn't, it seems the Ping Max was better at the intended goal of being more forgiving.

i tried both and PING G425 won for me hands down...not even close...so then got fitted for the Driver / 5 wood / 7 wood / 26 degree hybrid....cheers from Canada

I switched from Callaway epic flash sub zero to ping G425max. Though I hit bombs with the callaway but the accuracy is 70% compared to ping. I'm very happy that I switched. Just played a game on Friday and didn't miss the fairway once. Found 2 birdies and 4 pars. I was extremely happy. Only played golf less than 1 year. Recommend getting fit with ping before buying.

I previously had the G400Max...and traded it in after 2 years faithful service for a Big Bertha B21. Biggest mistake of my entire life. I've now ordered the G425 driver and 3 wood both Max Can't wait to rip them down the fairway!

I went in thinking I would walk out with the G425 max after watching a lot of videos and reading reviews. I hit the Ping and also hit the sim 2 max and a couple other drivers. Hated the sound of the 425 and look but wasn’t to concerned about that because I was hitting it well. Tried the Sim 2 max and absolutely loved the feel and sound of the club and was hitting the same shots as the G425. Ended up buying the Sim because I just kept wanting to pick it back up while I was hitting the Ping I was surprised but definitely recommend hitting different clubs and shafts to see what you like the best.

The MAX refers to the MOI being Maxed out in each Driver. As the MOI figure of the PING is higher than the TM it is by definition more forgiving, also the Ping Driver has the advantage of having an adjustable back weight, whereas the weight in the TM is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

Good point but don't forget, the stock shaft(Fujikura) in the SIM2 is of wayyyy better quality than the Ping driver. I hit the G425 side by side with the Ping G400max and the 400max was longer and straighter. Go figure. I bet the SIM2 is pretty sweet. Especially if you are already a good driver of the ball. I use the TM SIM2 FWs and they are spectacular.

@@rptucker3871 Don't be misled, TM uses a (made for version) of the Ventus Blue shaft that does not have the expensive velocore material i.e. it's a watered-down copy of the real thing, whilst the PING stock Aldila shafts are widely acknowledged to be one of the best stock shafts available. So I am not sure how you can make that comment about the relative quality of the shafts? PING themselves acknowledge that the G400 MAX is one of the straightest Drivers they have made, that's why it is still available from PING. My original comment was related to the measured MOI of each driver plus the ancillary comment that the PING has a movable rear weight, those comments remain valid.

Just do a teat and try to hit them straight this was based more on your shot shaping ability rather than just tying to hit straight shots and the club being forgiving of mistakes

I would like to see a comparison on std head lofts for accuracy. Same shaft in a 12, 10.5 and 9 head. I know many drivers can be adjusted but that changes the lie and face too. I have a M6 9.0 and SIM max 10.5 and think the SIM has the edge.

Had a driver fitting this week and walked away with a Sim2max. Couldn’t get on with the Ping and incredibly loud. Ha ha. First round with new driver tomorrow. Wish me luck. Lol

I know I'm not the only one out there, I think Sim2 is hideous. I've always said looks aren't everything when it comes to clubs but I couldn't put that thing in my bag, let alone pay £350+ for the privilege.

I love the sim2 max. Super confidant in being able to hit it plus 280 on 3/4 swing on the course. Longest drive was 315 in real life... Love the sound and feel and look of this club. I went with the G425 Ping though because I liked it good enough. Don't feel as confident that I will hit it far, but feel good about getting it in play. On average on the course I am feel like I am getting 15 to 20 yards less with the Ping, but it feels like I am hitting more fairways. Another factor was I did not like the Sim2 max 3 wood at all. And I loved the Ping G425 3 wood. I felt like it was the best club I ever hit. I had never before experienced hitting a golf ball 240 yards onto the green from the fairway. If the taylor made 3 wood was better I may still be using taylor made. But for me I wanted consistency in feel and look. Oh and I forgot to mention I hit the Ping driver 330 the other day. Longest drive ever. Had only a 20 yard pitch on a 350 yard par 4.

Ping drivers always seem a little slower is this due to the turbulence fins or the matt finish. Would love to see Ping do a gloss finish along with aero package maybe more speed and forgiveness

heavier heads. usually 206 grams v 196-198 on TM. slowing swing speeds but higher smash factor

G425 just wasn't the club for me. Did the worst with it. My fitting came down to tsi2 and sim 2 max. Honestly walked in thinking Ping would win.

Would be interesting to compare toe strike and heal strike performance as one of the rounds. This is where they tend to differentiate. In this case you have flex face vs 10K moi

Am I right in thinking that all these Drivers would work for everyone if the shaft & club was fitted correctly for them ? I’m basically thinking of buying a PingG425 before even hitting a ball & obviously get it fitted for a shaft & set up ? Am I way off the mark here ? I like the looks & I know it’s very forgiving which I basically need , I’m a regular 230/40 yards carry man ... feed back be great guys 👍

I got the G425 max fitted and took it out to the range yesterday and was really happy with the way it performed. I'd say our carry distance is similar but I was hitting straight into high winds so I couldn't tell you if it improved that aspect. What I really bought it for was increased accuracy, and it didn't disappoint. Once I shook off the winter rust, I started hitting the ball straighter than I had in years with my old Adams driver. Small sample size of about 60 balls, but I'd highly recommend this club.

That comparison was just OK. I have not hit the SIM2 max driver but I do use the SIM2 FW woods and the Fujikura shaft on these woods is fantastic which is the shaft in the driver as well. It's a much better shaft than in the Ping IMO. I have hit the G425 in the same spec as my G400max and the G400max is the best driver I have hit for distance and control combined. Both were using the same Mitsubishi shaft. I can't wait to compare the SIM2 with their stock shaft.

Hit both these two today and no comparison sim s max won hands down on distance, feel and more importantly sounds. Just couldn't bag that ping i also tried srixon zx5 same horrible sound so for me sim goes in the bag

The clubhead speed can sometimes be an issue with Trackman because centre of gravity in certain clubheads is not in the middle of the clubhead. Shows quicker

Ping driver heads are usually heavier than other brands, which gives them a lower swing speed, but higher smash factor.

@@mikeb3835 My G30 stock head weight is longer than my G400max with a 6 gram lighter head..Using the same shaft on both. But the G400max is straighter than the G30 so I'm playing the G400max

The Sim 2 Max is a horrendous hook machine. I demoed the 9-degree head -> hook, opened it to 8 - > still hooked. The Callaway Max 10.5 head, weight fully in the Toe, hooks about 1/2 as much but is at least playable.

@@chuckyl3978 Possible for sure - but I'm a plus one handicap and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing. My current driver is a Callaway Max LS 9.0 head, opened to 8.0 with the slideable weight halfway towards the toe - and it is perfectly neutral. Most non-tour heads that you can buy are draw biassed - and anything that says Max is absolutely Draw biassed.
