He may be hiding things because in the shelter their are too many dogs and difficult for him to have his own toys and treats. Now he is experiencing for the first time owning his own things and he appreciates them so much that he is hiding them for his own use later.

Max has found the perfect family. He is so adorable. I can remember watching him when he was at the Takis Shelter and thinking what a handsome, sweet dog he is. I love that he has a plan to find the perfect hiding spot and he’s going to hide that bone. So, so cute. I think it’s also so nice that he never destroys anything just pushes things around with his paws. Max and your other dog look like they really get along well, thank you for giving Max such a beautiful home and life. He is truly a sweet dog. Great video ... please send more. Thank you.

I have 4 dogs 3 are rescues and two would hide food in the garden but once they realized there will always be food they stopped the practice

His personality and quirks are finally coming out. That's a good thing. It's common for dogs to hide treats and toys. He didn't get them at the shelter. He wants to make sure they don't get taken away. Totally normal when You've never had your own stuff your whole life

Yes, just as Felice says - dogs hide bones outside, they dig them in lightly with their noses. Maybe he can't get outside so easily to do it? And it happens when they have plenty of bones, more than they need. You have such a lovely home, dogs and all!

Oh! My goodness this has taken me back a few year's My dog used to do this, I had to be careful as she used to raid the house bins, and hide whatever she could. Then when you come home she would have one eye on you, and one on her stash Lovely on my velvet settee. I miss her so much,and wouldhave her back in a heartbeat, nevermind about the settee. Max is a beautiful boy, looks great fun too. So pleased you was able to rescue him. 🐕🐕🐕🐕💕⚘⚘.

Back in the 70s, my aunt had a toy poodle that would hide treats in their shag carpet. And when I was a kid, months after Easter our dog somehow found an Easter that we had hidden in the house for an egg hunt. 😁

Actually...this is normal behaviour for dogs. They will hide food...and toys... so other dogs cant "steal" them. And, they will even rehide it if another dog sees them do it. More common in multiple dog households... This behaviour goes back 1000s of years. My toy poodle does it. Can be a but yukky when you find a hidden treasure under a pillow or cushion ..lol

My adopted senior dog did this only twice when we first brought him home and never did again. After his passing, some months later, I found his secret stash: it was hidden for 6 years! I guess, dogs from the shelters, once adopted, still feel insecure and are afraid to be hungry again, especially if there is another dog in the household. Once they realize, this is a trustworthy home and a safe place with plenty of food for everyone, they stop doing it. Max looks very ”hard working” on his ”projects”-- so cute.

When my mom’s beagle was young, she came to visit my husband & me in our new apartment. I gave her a dog biscuit, which she never ate, but tried to bury it behind the sofa in the carpet. She was “pushing” the carpet with her nose like Max was doing, except of course it didn’t go anywhere. Hilarious!

Lots of dogs hide things, especially food if they didn't have alot of it surviving the streets before Taki found them; old habits plus instinct. I once had a dachshund who had been surviving on the streets. After some time he began to hide his food and then progressed into becoming very territorial and aggressive if anyone passed by the room where he hid his treats. He became very insecure. It was very alarming and sad. I could no longer take him out in public. I wish I’d known them what I know now about how dogs can begin to display deep insecurities because of a previous lifestyle. Victoria Stellman of “It’s Me or the Dog” is where I learned the most about this subject.
