Actually, this isn't supposed to be "dark". Max Landis had said he is sick of "dark" adaptions. This pitch is supposed to be more of an adventure styled film, different from "dark".

Whether or not you like the idea you have to admit Max has an innate talent for visualising and explaining his pitches both inside his head and outside. Not everybody can construct such vivid stories so often or so clearly. Honestly I wish I could write like that.

Firelite906 still not entirely that remarkable or original
@bender_cigar9 жыл бұрын
Firelite906 Lol did I fucking say things arent copied regularly? No. However his idea is weak as it follows almost the EXACT format of Hook. Grown ass adult male who's out of connection with his inner youth must journey back to his fantastical adventures when he was a boy in order to reconnect with both himself and his own children. Oh and a family member is kidnapped or missing, gone off into said fantastical land. Lmao they even LIVE in San Francisco, California just like in Hook.... "it's less about finding his youth again and more about finding himself as an adult" At no point in time was that stated by max or implied, seeing as though the whole point was CR connecting BACK to his youth. He had forgotten who he was..... Which is again, the exact theme of Hook. And he does this ALL the fucking time with his movie pitch ideas, they're hardly ever remarkable. They usually just leave me scratching my head as I point out every single film he's taken that idea from. It's 90% of the time an awkward hodgepodge of movie ideas put into one film. Just look at his lord of the rings set in modern day idea. I'll admit, the idea of exploring the characters of winnie the pooh as different aspects of his psyche is good (i mean that's been a long established concept), it still does little to deter the fact this is indeed an almost straight rip off of Hook in both plot structure and themes. That being said I do not hate max landis or think he's a terrible at ideas because he has demonstrated in his movie scripts he can think of great scripts like Chronicle. But in my opinion he works better as a comic book authority than a script writer.

This is a good pitch but the pitch relies so heavily on the twist
@orynzarael64112 жыл бұрын
Here's a Pitch: A Child Grows up with Happiness Even though in Reality it is Terrible. He is able to Grow Up but Slowly the Crushing Reality that Happiness is Not What Everyone Else Wants Sinks In. At his Darkest Moment, He Prays to God and Everything Else for Protection and Salvation Only to Eventually Find a Mogo (Or did it Find Him). The Mogo Cannot Understand Why this Human is Emitting Such a Strong Frequency So it Bestows Power Upon the Boy/Man in Order to Understand More. Thus Chronicle 2 is About the Relationship Between a Mogo and Hurt Human Child.
@Xskills169 жыл бұрын
This is really reminiscent of Hook to me: take an everyman whose mysterious past you ignore because of the immediate family troubles. This tumultuous status quo ceases when a loved one goes missing and in attempt to this person, he is pulled (somewhat literally) back into the magical world where it is revealed this guy is actually just a character from well-known children's property who left that world and grew up but must find a balance between that iconic boy and that adult he is today on his journey to rescue this loved one.

Exactly what I was thinking. Max bases a lot of his material on already existing content, Chronicle being the obvious exception. I can say that he'd probably make some high caliber fan fiction, but that's about it. I will say, the way he pitched a Captain Hook movie on the Nerdist podcast felt far more inspired and original.

it's two different movies. And Christopher Robin needs to be MORE interesting than the updated Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, etc..or falling into the same trap as "Hook", which has Robin Williams playing the dullest character in the movie.

It's an articulate idea for a trilogy of films, but they wouldn't be Peter Pan films. His pitch is in utter ignorance of the Peter Pan books and mythology, and the Freudian underpinnings of the original story. Clearly, he isn't a fan of the J.M. Barrie's work, and I'm glad he would never be able to touch it. Besides that, it more like a ripoff of the version of the characters from Once Upon A Time, which is also a betrayal of the original stories. I can't stand this post-modern bullshit where a classic story has to be completely reversed, and thus undone, in order to make it "edgy" or "modernized". If you have to butcher someone else's narrative, you aren't a good writer. Period.
@GregBlunt10 жыл бұрын
This video is a pitch about a different property. The "Mayweather" video is about Hook's origin and is told from his perspective as opposed to Pan's.
@Uptomyknees10 жыл бұрын
...was Winnie The Pooh in Peter Pan?
@GregBlunt10 жыл бұрын
Uptomyknees my thoughts exactly. Troll bait, anyone?
@e.m.francis694610 жыл бұрын
I heard enough about the "Mayweather" pitch in this video to know it doesn't need to be made. Ever. Just like Channing Tatum's mockery of the original story he pitched where Pan and Hook are brothers. It's a complete slap to the face of everything the original story is and the symbolic, Freudian nature of the characters and setting. Bottom line: Uptomyknees is great pitch man, I'll give him that, but taking a pre-existing story and mangling it just for a twist ending or a gasp moment from the audience is the very definition of post-modern creative bankruptcy.
@AlchemicSaiyan10 жыл бұрын
E. M. Francis Sir, you need to learn that you just DEFINED your own opinion on the matter and it is nothing more than that. Just because you aren't a fan of retellings of classic tales in a different form doesn't mean they're an insult. The world doesn't revolve around how you believe movies should be made.
@AlexM-vt5pu3 жыл бұрын
He's annoying!
@Jarnagua8 жыл бұрын
This is NOT a good idea. You don't just shit all over the themes, style and artistry of an existing beloved story in order to rape it for a new modern franchise. It's artistic heresy. It's the kind of un-originality that makes Hollywood so crappy today. The one he did about Tolkien was worse. So disrespectful. What kind of artist do you want to be, man? Max has good ideas. This isn't one of them.
@christherocker898 жыл бұрын
+Jarnagua This, much like his Lord of the Rings pitch are never supposed to be taken seriously in a "lets make a movie out of this" kind of way. They're just fun little stories he's telling with the twist being something familiar. He's literally just bullshitting a story in a way in which half of the fun is waiting for the other shoe to drop and to find out what form said shoe takes. It's a bit of fun, don't take it so seriously.
@Jarnagua8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Hall I hope you're right. He IS a very entertaining pitch-man.
