I’m glad y’all are willing to travel to some of these places because some of these roads would make me very nervous. Beautiful views and sunset.

The road is very rough, and I wish they would smooth it some. But the views from the top, make it worth it.

Beautiful! I noticed the few AT hikers i followed from feb-oct hiking the AT said they’d closed max patch to camping for now. Sure is a pretty part of the mountains!

Yes, I know you are not allowed to camp on the summit. I thought you were still allowed to camp down in the woods alongside of it, though. But I'm not sure if that's changed. A few years back, and you can find the image online, a bunch of people were up there and trashed the whole summit. Garbage everywhere. I think maybe that's when they started cracking down on it.

That’s too bad about the garbage. Think i remember hearing that. It sees I recall the hikers saying they were closing it for this season for AT hikers camping to give it a chance to rejuvenate or give the area a break. There were well over 3,000 hikers who started at springer mtn this year. So, I suppose that can be a bit of an impact over the years. I undertood them to say it wasn’t permanent. I hope not. I didn’t get the final count on how many finished at Kirstin in maine this year. I want t say it was like 1300 last I heard. Of course, they wot all make it, but it was fun watching a few along the way. I learned a saw a lot about hiking it. Not for the faint of heart. I watched “jay wanders out” and “the heard hiker” mostly. Very intersting if y’all ever want to check out from the beginning then switch to middle and then end - to see if you’d like to watch more . Maybe pick a few places you’d like to see, landmarks. Jay wanders out videos are incredible! Cinematography is amazing!

@@cumberlandquiltchic1 Thank you for the suggestion. I'll have to check that out. I don't think hiking the entire Trail, is something we'll ever be able to do. We love our day hikes, but I don't know about 2,100+ miles.

Steve earl wrote a song called Cooper head road. Kingston pike in knoxville tn used to be called Cooper head road. The song about running shine down kingston pike. Also you mentioned the 3rd Sat in Oct was this day. I was in Neyland stadium this sunset and once dark was on the field screaming with another 104k fans tearing goal post down. Live in knoxville going here this may 31st memorial day to foxfire camp ground and doing max patch can't wait. Oh and go volsssss

It’s beautiful there me and my son and his wife and my six year old granddaughter camped there and backpacked to hot springs. Didn’t know that you can’t camp there anymore.

My understanding, is that you can't camp on the summit, but you can walk down Into the woods off of the summit and camp. A couple of years back, a bunch of people camped up there and trashed the entire summit.
