I like Max coming up with lore reasons for why Akuma looks rough and ignores the fact that he's gotta be pushing like 70-80 at this point and has been living in caves his whole life. He was Gouken's brother who basically raised Ryu and Ken from childhood and those guys are like 40 now.

This is actually a reference to his victory animation when he became an Oni. He does the same thing, but he does not throw the defeated enemy, but finishes him off. This means that Gouki in SF6 is already close to his state where he completely abandoned humanity and became an Oni. Not yet, but very close.

@@BiriBiri925 I hope not. Akuma doesn't want to become an Oni, he wants to transcend all of that. He despises those that he considers too weak to control their power. SF5 was finally showing this side to him (check his dialogue with Kage) but in SF3 he's going insane - on the path to Oni. Since SF6 is after SF3 looks like capcom have retconned some of his characteristics in SF3. But will have to wait for a full breakdown on his character.

Turns out the Satsui no Hadō is great for your win-rate but absolutely terrible for your blood pressure. I hope Akuma goes to see his doctor, we want Grandpa Gouki to be around for many more years!

I like how Akuma’s fireball animation now basically has him doing it one handed even on the ground version (like Gouken and Oni), only using his off hand at the end of the animation, ostensibly like he’s only using it for aiming and stabilizing. Not only does it make his design more coherent (since he was always doing it one handed in the air anyway), but it further emphasizes his position as a master on a level above Ryu and Ken who still have to use both hands to use fireballs. It’s also a very elegant way to still make it look similar to his old two handed animation, so it still looks like Akuma, while giving him a wholly unique fireball animation that’s only associated with him. A+ for attention to detail by Capcom’s staff 👌 Edit: On rewatching the footage at 0.25x speed, he actually gathers energy in both hands seperately before bringing his thrusting hand forward into the off hand, which is even cooler!

Im cherish a lot of akuma right now highlighting the arcade days of third strike at the moment im playing a lot of akuma cause i installed third strike on my dreamcast emulator so really wating the raging beast once again. So in the end of all the year 1 season pass he is the only character im living for the rest on who might come in the next few years if god and mary will keep me alive i dont care that much about them. Thank you max for the akuma breakdown. a lot of akuma moves are so resembled in previous iterations of street fighter franchise while some others movesets are new so its a nice touch that he is so refreshed from scratch

One thing Max missed in this is that Akuma's Gozanku(Shinku) super can also be done in the air as well, not just on the ground. I believe this is the first time he's been able to do a super version in a non-tag fighter since SvC Chaos and first mainline SF since 3rd Strike.

Ed's Kill rush is not invulnerable at any point. It's still probably the best move Ed has because he can close the distance and get oki situations *without* spending drive gauge. If Akuma's teleport is like that it will definitely be used more than Max seems to believe.
