When I hear this song, I think of my Mothers life. Her experiences growing up, her time raising me as a child. The pain and the joy she experienced through her time. And her death that left me and my father who is stricken with Alzheimer's and Dimensia missing her laugh and her hugs. The last thing she said to me while she could still speak was, "Don't worry about me bud, I'll be fine.". Nobody had the heart to tell her she was dying. But then a week later she was gone. That was just over a year and a half ago, but I can still hear her laugh and see her bright smile when she looked at me. I miss you momma, and so does Dad. He often says that he wishes he had went before her or with her because of how much he loves and misses her. I have to keep how much it hurts locked up inside myself because I know that if he sees it, he too will break down.

Today, I was hurting. I still am. This song describes how pain can be sorrowful, sometimes joyful. I can't explain into words how beautiful this song is, it expressed a sense of nostalgia, almost wishing you were living in the past, because you're terrified of the future, and what it holds. He explored this idea perfectly, the strings conveyed pain, fear and nostalgia. Incredible, speechless

Makes me think of my ancestors. My grandmother and grandfather. When I knew them they were already old, but they were once newborns feeling the cool air fill their lungs for the first time, gasping for breath and being cradled in the loving arms of their mothers. All the potential they had was bound up in that moment of birth. All their joys and sorrows were seeded as their destiny began to unfold. They grew, they learned, they laughed, they ached. The gamut of human experience was theirs, sometimes in the public view of a celebrated anniversary, sometimes in private moments of depth and tenderness that nobody else can unlock. They cherished hopes for their children and grandchildren. They quietly suffered the disappointment of not living up to their ideals. They grew old and added joys and sorrows in equal measure until it was time to go, and it was all so fleeting, so delicate, so meaningful, transient. Life is so close but sometimes feels untouchable.
