Just finished watching the film. Dr Sala, you should feel absolutely no shame. It was an incredible feat of endurance in ridiculously hot and challenging conditions. You should be immensely proud of your effort and what you’ve done for those children. Bravo, Sir. I doubt even Coppi ever came close to suffering like you did.

Stumbled upon this as cyclist 2 years in. Humbling and inspiring, I really really understand his frustration of not finishing but the rational thought is clear: The effort is massive and the mission is accomplished in helping and inspiring children as well as athletes around the world.

It's a wounderful show of what really is the RAAM, it's tremendously difficult and as human being it's possible to fail. Max, you are awesome, among many movie of RAAM, this is the one I like most. Thanks!

So many uses for bungies, but to hold your head up is way out there. This race is done on the willingness, not letting any obstacle stop you and that's what your team did.

Incredibly inspiring! Currently riding to raise money to fight kids cancer, and this is well and beyond anything I even thought possible, exactly what I needed to see. The distances rode over that short of a time span are mind boggling. Should absolutely be super proud of himself.

Brilliant cause, incredible effort. As a mad keen cyclist and lifelong City fan, I’d love to see City get more closely involved with the sport. It would be a perfect fit, especially given the proximity of British Cycling just across the road. Many Italian teams also have cycling clubs. Lazio and Roma are good examples. When I went to the champions league game in Rome I nearly bought the cycling kit as a souvenir but couldn’t bring myself to do it! It would be great if City could start something. Imagine the excellent publicity gained by promoting a healthy lifestyle? Perhaps do some “sportive”or “granfondos” events starting at the Etihad for all ages and abilities ranging from a few laps of the campus for the kids and out into the Peak District for the keen adults? At least sell some well designed quality cycling kit.....

I think it was in the late 80s edition of the RAAM and a competitor named Paul Solon had neck issues also. They used the bungee cord fix except they hooked the bungee cord to the seat. Pretty sure he was the eventual winner.

I would say it is one of the hardest but not the worlds hardest bike race, there is a whole support team..meanwhile Trans Am Bike Race is 4200 miles SELF supported, I would say that is tougher.

The hardests races are the ones race at the professionnal level by professionnals cyclists. Whos averaging 25 to 40 thousands k a year. It is a war every race !

Seems like by 2021 Max should attempt this ride again. He should have all kinds of positive and negative data from his 2018 ride to finish in 12 days. He didn't really have much of a well thought out plan in 2018. He had a great support team that basically kept him from killing himself. But he didn't have any real structured plan other than ride as far as possible then try to sleep. He should try week-long rides to prep his body and mind for that type of bike riding. His team should also study and take notes from RAAM finishers who did well. It was a great goal but he needed to be a little more prepared mentally, and physically for it. He is an inspiration and you can tell he's incredibly genuine in his feelings. Hope he tries again! Go Max!

You needed a chiropractor when you had the acute neck pain! All that stress on your cervical spine from leaning over for hours on end takes a toll. How was MRI of cervical spine? Were your discs intact.? You should consider riding a mountain bike so you don't lean over so much.
