I just love how GP just suggests what Max can do instead of giving an order like other race engineers do. He lets Max make the decisions because he understands that Max has the better feel of the car and the track than what the data on the monitors suggests. GP tells Max what he should expect in the next minute and Max reads the situation greatly. They’re probably one the best engineer/driver combo in history.

I mean, everyone watching could see (or rather couldn't see :D) it coming. Only spray water, not even a few centimeters of sight. And rivers on the track. It was so clear a red is coming, especially because they expected it to become worse even.

If multiple drivers do this that sways rhe stewards a bit. If he pitted and Lando stayed out he’d call for continuation. Nothing against him, I’m a big fan that’s why I’m listening to this, but gotta keep in mind that these guys know how to play all levels of this game.

The only arguably better rain driver than Max on the grid is Lewis and Alonso maybe.. so, max is one of the best on the grid right now.. And if Max says he wants to try another lap it means his tyre management and his confidence in grip is still there 2. Ollie bearman is a rookie, Colapinto is a rookie, so there are plenty high chance that one of the driver would lost control of their car before Lewis, Alonso and Max lost their control.. So for Lewis Alonso and Max waiting other to make mistakes Redflag before they did is a Great Strategy not a big risk gambling

This is only when it's a rain race, normally, atleast on Max' radio they hardly talk. Max doesn't like it that an engineer constantly talks into his ears while he's racing only when needed, GP knows that. F1 just always cut out the spicy one liners for tv, so most fans who don't know that are basically manipulated into thinking what they hear on the tv broadcast is all radio. But it's just sensationalistic clips chosen by the FOM for the show, just like DTS.

as clearly noted here, RB made the CORRECT call and KNEW the procedure is to WAIT for green. you get the flashing yellows as indication of ABORT but its only at GREEN a car moves. regardless the rules didnt get enforced due to the serious ammount of ppl following and this being a first time for this to really happen like this.

In Kym Illmans video there is a very nice photo. You see Stroll standing track side, marshals in the background working on his car, while at the foreground you see the papaya orange car of Norris. The track is supposed to be clear once a start is aborted. From a safety point of view, this is equal to overtaking the SC under a SC deployment. This wasn't just a start procedure infrigement, but a safety infrigement as well. The reprimande handed out is a joke. This should have been at least a drive through penalty, but a black flag might even have been more appropriate. Drivers putting each other at risk ranges between 5s and 10s. In this case volunteers were put at risk. There is no excuse for that. Stroll 1 lap earlier demonstrated that under the given conditions it is not unlikely to have a miss hap at formation lap speeds. Just my 2c.

i dont want anyone to ever compare him to other drivers in the wet again............ p18 to p3 or something with 2 more pitstops than the dominant mercs with hamilton and rosberg as a rookie p17 to p1 19 seconds ahead of p2 when the 5 races before that 2 mclarens and 2 ferraris had more pace half the grid got into contact with eachother, the gras, gravel or barriers but this man passes 10 drivers in 10 laps there was no DRS so he basically made a few of his moves on wet, dirty or unknown lines and simply outbraked on other overtakes. meanwhile his teammate cant even drive it into the points half the season. and at the end of the day during the press conference.... the brittish press wasnt there, max called them out and the whole conference room was laughing at that! this guy is way better than hamilton ever was and its not even a debate anymore... if ferrari doesnt have the fastest car next year, hamilton will be lucky to be on the podium. 2008 hamilton title Mclaren and ferrari were almost equal, lewis won in the end because of crashgate! the rest of his titles came from cars that saw bottas get pole positions and win races 25 seconds in front of world champions in the 2nd fastest car.... What did verstappen do in a dominant car in 2022 and 2023? win almost every race and get 3x the points of the #2 driver over those 2 years.

I mean, there were other drivers who could drive like him in rain. Michael Schumacher for example. He was called "Rain God" / "Rain Master" for a reason. His drive in rain was also sensational. But I agree, compared to the current grid NO ONE is at the level of Max, not even close. Right now he is driving a 2nd or 3rd fastest car depending on the track. And he still delivers every fucking time. Something other drivers and teams can't say of themselves.

GP really kept him in the race until the red flag: Max was very uncomfortable with the tyres at that point. This is a fantastic example of how important the role of the race engineer is.

damn that start infringement is super clear. they breached the yellow light at the start. you can only go once its green. they (Norris and Russel) started the issue and made the situation at stroll and the marshalls really dangerous by warming their tires again. and they only get a slap on the wrist. you really need a british passport in F1. its like having diplomatic immunity

I am a fan of Max for his racecraft. 1. Max has a better understanding of the mechanical side of the car from his childhood, which is why you won't hear radios from his race engineer advising him on how to apply brakes and how to treat corners (like others, give a listen to their radios). This is also why I think that once GP takes his higher position at the end of the season, the transition will be smooth for whoever takes his spot. He will need to just realize what info Max needs at what time 2. Max has surprising awareness compared to the other drivers. He called the aborted start procedures, he noticed the wrong grid positions. He was confident that the track was undrivable before red flag announcement (this is something the majority of the drivers said as well though, including Norris). He called a rolling start before it even happened and many more. 3. He's in tune with his car and in his tires and knows when he can push and when not. You can notice this during the call to stay out. He only tells GP to give him info on the weather because the rest he's perfectly aware of. 4. The race itself from him was a beauty to watch. There were no sudden maneuvers, he just eased the car into all corners and all overtakes, damn perfect play with the throttle and brakes. 5. add your own

You can see how super important this relationship is between max and gp, they compliment each other, knowing each others strengths, and trusting each others judgements blindly so they can focus on what they do best: One person drives the car like a bat out of hell, and the other person makes sure its going in the right direction. And of course in the end Max will be Max.. and he will have a little fun with lap times. and Gp will be a little scared.. but you can't be a racing driver that doesn't want to push the limit just a centimeter further than is absolutely necessary 😀

GP, with 5 laps to go, saying, _"No risk, Max. No risk, yeah?"_ followed by Max doing purple sectors nearly the entirety of the rest of the race, was effin' glorious. Max wanted to make a statement, and he did so. Not only with his driving, but also with his dig at Norris at the end. The entire weekend, from a viewers' standpoint, was "Simply lovely." As a fan of Max, it was just next-level. But according to Norris, is was all just luck. Now I'm off to listen to his team radio. I'm sure he got more than a little salty.
