Thanks mate very informal. As im new - well im "playing" NMS from 2017-2018 but just fooling around making walks on the planet and... diging holes- this is what i need. I also watched your lore series and was excellent. NMS has indeed deep lore

Glad to see I’m not the only one who noticed the initial boost downside. Also, I usually melee boost and initial boost doesn’t appear to have any effect on that. IB is a wasted stat to focus on for my playstyle.
@GhostLightXEАй бұрын
I won’t say it’s a complete waste… I chose to not upgrade this stat at all on a save and using the jet pack just ended up feeling kind of weak. There is definitely a point at which initial boost works against the lift though.

Finally someone mentions 'Initial Boost' and its downsides. I personally avoid this stat at all costs, focusing on tank capacity and recharge rate. With a fast tank recharge, sprint time/recharge is irrelevant. The similar can be said for multitool upgrades, with the best (feeling) returns being fire rate, burst cooldown/size and reload time. I've never really noticed a difference adding 3% damage but bumping the fire rate up by 30+% makes a world of difference. I only wish the sentinel mods weren't restricted to just the boltcaster :(
@GhostLightXE10 ай бұрын
Yes! My intention is to do another movement video focused on sprinting and then a follow up to find the balance between jet pack & sprinting. The exosuit is complicated due to all of the potential variables you can effect, but i think an iterative approach followed by an overview is the way to go. And I’ll DEFINITELY be working Multitools into the equation along the way, because I have thoughts! Great info though! I’ll be sure to include those points in my tests.

Question for you: why not use forward movement speed as an outcome measure? Seems like that would be relevant for day to day gameplay.
@GhostLightXE10 ай бұрын
Great question! Two reasons: first, no one variable seems to directly impact forward movement speed. So I decided to put my efforts into areas where I can make measurable improvements. There’s an argument to be made for initial boost but only when used in combination with the melee boost mechanic, so those numbers are difficult to calculate. Second, it needs to be measurable. Now I could have a timed trial but combined with the above point, it seemed more logical to focus on the areas where those upgrade variables most directly impact. Great question though! If there’s an interest, I can run a follow up test.
@GozinyaSpace10 ай бұрын
@@GhostLightXE thanks for the quick response! I really liked the analytical nature of the video, especially the p-value callout 😂. You make a good point about forward speed and how it’s not affected by any variables. I was thinking more like average speed over a long distance, assuming optimal use of melee boost and sprint while the jet pack is recharging. I would assume the two variables that impact this are flight time (which you measured) and recharge time (which was not evaluated). Then, your sprint time really just needs to be greater than your jet pack recharge time. You don’t need to re-run any tests, I’m just curious if the outcomes would be any different if you measured the long-distance travel ability.
@GhostLightXE10 ай бұрын
Yes! All great points. I’m planning a whole series on exosuit upgrades, of which this is the first. Maybe the next one should look at the sprinting side of movement and then, at the end, look into the balance of jetpack/sprinting with the movement upgrades available.

Awesome video! This was the breakdown of stats that I needed. I've mostly just thrown in S-class modules that seemed like they had high numbers, but comparing your flight time to mine is a real eye opener. Looks like it's time to start rolling some dice. I also love the Null sticker with the red X through it. That dude is kind of a jerk.

Thanks! I can't even tell you the HOURS I spent rolling x-class modules... and then I kept falling asleep during it! Even now I wonder, could I have found EVEN BETTER modules?! I want some jetpack tanks/recharge rate modules now!

For a game about traveling I find the jetpack to leave alot to desire....I wouldnt mind more ways to move around to keep things interesting. Also put ship ejections in the game so you don't always have to land your ship. Be cool to orbital drop to the planet from space
@GhostLightXE3 ай бұрын
Orbital drops would be an amazing addition, or just generally letting you exit your ship whenever you want. Low orbit, high orbit. Whenever!

Are you aware of exocraft? (Genuine question since you may be a new player). It doesn't take too much work to get everything required to summon your preferred exocraft on the surface at will.
@the_real_austin_marshall2 ай бұрын
@mitch3384 yeah I have exocrafts but even those feel slow. I have found the nomad to be the fastest way to travel because of the slippery frictionless way it moves but it still feels really sluggish. A good example is like if you remember the scene from empire strikes back when they are on hot and the snow speeders are cruising across the tundra looking for luke and Han. That's what I want. Feels like your going 30 mph no matter what vehicle your in

Didn't really clarify on the whole adjacency vs super charged and whether super charging the jetpack was more advantageous to supercharging 1 module. Also, too much flowery dialog, detracts from the purpose of the video, which would appear to be explaining game mechanics. This kind of dialog is fine when you're telling a story but it's just distracting when you're trying to get across a technical explanation. The only thing I got from this video is that tank capacity is king.

The content of the video is very good, but the downside is the processed voice narration sounds like someone who has something stuck in their throat. I get it, it is intended to be alien sounding, but it is not pleasant to listen to. I am trying to provide constructive\honest feedback without trashing the content and effort put into video.
