Two comments from me for foreigners trying to get some tips: 1. Her Indonesian is very good, very local, notably because of her ‘r’ sound. How you pull off the ‘r’ is what differenciates between bule and native speakers. She definitely passed with flying color. 2. In terms of how to express something without insulting the sensitive and polite Indonesians (at all places), she probably did not articulate it clearly from her explanation, but if you look at her body language and her expression, they are spot on. Smile, hand gesture, nod frequently. You can never insult Indonesians if you do all those things.

Watching the video made me realize that in Indonesia, our smiles and friendliness are basically gold. We’ve mastered the art of living through hardship with a grin-because hey, being broke is no excuse to be grumpy! Plus, from childhood, we’ve been told that smiling is a form of worship, so we’re practically racking up spiritual points every time we flash our teeth. And let’s be real, it's like we were born with our parents forcing us to say “makasih, Bude, Bule, Tante, Om” with a huge smile for every bit of uang or permen we got! But don’t get it wrong, we’re not just in it for the treats-most of us are genuinely nice. We’ve been taught that even if you're broke, it’s more honorable to work than to beg. Like, "I'd rather sell gorengan on the corner than ask for a handout!"

Sorry To Say pikiran kuno.

Those who say walking alone is not safe are just reminding you to stay alert and if possible, always invite a friend, that's a signal whether you want to be accompanied or not.

Hidup mewah. Negara2 maju rata2 GDP percapitanya 40rb usd pertahun, sedangkan indonesia cuma 4700 setahun. Jauh bagai bumi dan langit. Ibarat orang jakarta gaji dua digit, balik kampung makan pinggir jalan cuma keluar 10 rebu perak, yang biasanya sekali makan keluar minimal 45-50rebuan. Pasti kalap dan ngerasa happy, segala murah. Dimana lagi mereka cuma keluar duit $100 semalam buat villa mewah dengan infintiy pool plus brakfast, plus view cakep hahaha.. di negaranya $100 cuma buat 3-4 kali makan+minum. itupun streetfood. Dimana lagi mereka makan cuma modal $2. Hahaha.

As an Indonesian, i dare to say this is one of the best interview about Indonesia from a foreigner's perspective, and getting Bule Barbie as the source person was spot on! She doesn't gloss over the minus points and really shared what she experienced and felt about Indonesia and Jerman was nice, it makes the viewers connected to her and understood about her experience from her perspective. And the fact that she smiles a lot in this video reveals how Indonesian she's now 😁👍

Wow..

As an Asian, let me break it down for Barbie - You're white. That's why the Indonesians are very friendly to you. That's all. If I visit Indonesia, the locals treat me normally.
@herurochadi4945 күн бұрын

Indonesia is not like other Asian countries that cater only to tourists from certain groups or races. We are a diverse nation, with various ethnicities, cultures, and languages across our islands. Although Indonesia is part of the Austronesian race, in Eastern Indonesia, such as Papua, we also have people of the Melanesian race, who resemble those in Africa with dark skin and curly hair. Here, tolerance, friendliness, and respect are universal, regardless of background. We treat everyone equally, including our fellow Indonesians in Papua.
@caezero20724 күн бұрын
@@AlfonsiaArnoldiaeh, not really. Every time there’s a peaceful demonstration from Papua (ofc there are many demonstrations, your government fails them for decades), the people involved are called 'monyet' or 'monkey.' Whenever there’s a terrorist act from the OPM, they’re also called 'monyet.' And Indonesians from Western side of the country often excuse this by saying that only anti-Indonesian Papuans are called 'monyet,' but I call it bull****. They’re called them monyet simply because of the appearance, and Papuans, whether anti- or pro-Indonesian, look the same. It’s a pretty insulting and racist attitude toward all Papuans.

I calculated that " bule barbie" wealth while living in Indonesia was probably around $700,000 dollars, which she got from endorsements and invitations to appear on TV. If "bule barbie"could process it well, she could become a billionaire in Indonesia, perhaps she would have a fortune of millions of dollars or maybe more

"Bule" (slang) is a neutral word that historically came from the Malay language "bu·lai", meaning: "white all over the body and hair due to less pigments or albino". The word doesn't have negative historical backgrounds. Regarding whether it is offensive, just like any other word depends on the next word that follows it in the sentence. And "bule" actually does not belong to all foreigners. For black people we used to call them "negro" (from Portuguese language). For Middle East people we called them "Arab". For Eastern Asian foreigners, we are just called as their nationality. Or we just simply called all foreigners as Sir/Mam/Mr/Mrs for formal reasons.
