I have both. Looking back, getting the newer Charge 5 was not necessary at all. Financially, it was stupid of me- actually. The Charge 4 is awesome without fault. Charge 5 sounds great also, but there is no reason to get one if you already have a Charge 4. I like both and do not prefer one over the other... Though the Charge 4 does have the Aux input, which is missing in the newer Charge 5. I guess, if you have money to blow, get both, but don't expect a noticeable difference. In my real life use, I can't tell a meaningful difference at all.

Actually both are waterproof and neither have been tested for dust proof. The "IP" stands for ingress protection and the last two digits are the tested protection, the IPX7 and X8 both have been tested for water ingress but if they were dust tested the rating would have a 6 instead of an X. Anytime there is an "X" in an ingress protection rating it means an item has not been tested for that category, in this case they were tested for water but not dust. If they were approved for dust the ratings would be IP67 and IP68, with 8 qualifying for a deeper submersion.

yep, i bought the 5 and ended up taking it back for that reason only, no aux. Delayed sound when producing on bluetooth and also delayed video audio feedback on youtube so what youre hearing is not what youre seeing.. Originally had the Charge 3, Skipped Charge 4 and got Bose Soundlink II but no longer have it, wish I could get a new charge 3 but they dont make em so Charge 4 It is I guess since its online for $114 new... Would get another sound link revolve 2 but it cost more then it did when I got it like 5 years ago yet its the exact same as it was... Its $200+ now, which if I was gonna spend that on a bluetooth speaker I might as well get one of those bigger JBL speakers for that price but I dont want one that big. Very nicely done you answered all my questions better than any other video. Although if I had one critical thing to say in my opinion that I’ve heard helped me on other videos when doing the video with music comparison I would not stop in between each comparison to let us know which Speaker you’re using that’s taking up too much time to compare a sound you should go back-and-forth very quickly so we can hear the actual comparison when you pause and talk it takes you out of sync with the sound of the music before. Just some critical feedback that I think would help you in the future. But other than that the best video on comparing any JBL speakers.!

Forgot to mention the Bluetooth upgrade I think, but either way it’s cool, but if they added a microphone to take calls and such directly from the speaker, I think it would be worth considering to upgrade. Although I’m not worried about the dust proof rating and the party boost feature sounds cool but I already have a charge 4 and just wanted another for the connect plus feature, now that I know it isn’t supported I’ll just go with another charge 4, in my opinion it’s not bad but they kinda missed the mark with some things they could have done, turning it into a mobile smart device like a google home or such would have been kind of cool

With speakers, preference of how it sounds is apt to prove so subjective as to be uninformative to the prospective buyer. I bought a Charge 5 after listening to a friend’s charge 3. I was going to get a 4, but in buying a refurb 5 I got it for the same price as a new 4. The things mostly discussed in this video are irrelevant to me, since it will only be operated in the house or on the patio. My opinion of the sound is that the 5 is quite good, better highs than the 3, and, I suspect, the 4, since the 5 is a two-way speaker (one having independent tweeter and midrange drivers).
@Autoxdriver3 жыл бұрын
I think the Charge 5 just looks fat, lol, and it won't stand straight vertically anymore like the Charge 4 did. I like the fact that it has separate drivers but the sound is not better enough to make me upgrade from my Charge 4. I also bought my Charge 4 partially on the fact that it includes the aux port that they nixxed on the Charge 5.

One thing you didn’t get right, the JBL charge 4 is 30 watts rms as the JBL charge 5 is 40 watts rms because the woofer is 30 watts and the tweeter is 10 watts so that adds up to 40 watts in total
@jalee65872 жыл бұрын
I doubt 10 watts would be going to that tweeter. A tweeter needs only 1 watt of power to achieve 90-95db of volume 2 to 3 watts is all that a tweeter needs to be ear piercingly loud. Watts are what is needed to mechanically move a sub woofer driver .low frequency requires much more power to reproduce at higher volumes.

@@jblking3896This is me typing from my old account. After trying both the TT has deeper bass and clarity is more pronounced. TT version sounds better, NT has better waterproofing.

Does it actually charge via USB-C and not some BS bastard child USB-A to C cable? I can't get it to charge with anything but normal USB as it completely ignores USB-C PD devices, like my Wife's XPS charger and my MacBook charger.

Connecting 100 other speakers is a little too excessive isn't it.

Charge 5 all the way

I was going to get the 5 because of the fome tweeter, but if you consider the difference in clarity to be negligible, I might just get the 4. (Yes, I know, I should listen myself and make up my mind.)

Making the Charge 5 vertically stand at an angle was a bad move.
