equations involving two different types of functions are difficult to solve. If both sides are trigonometric functions we can simplify the equation and can solve. equation like cos x = 2x can be solved by approximation by letting f(x) = cos x - 2x and looking for two close values a and b for which f(a) and f(b) have opposite signs. Since f(x) and f(b) are of opposite sign graph of f(x) must have cut the x-axis where root of the equation cos x - 2x = 0 occurs. Then we can say that root lies in the interval (a, b). Now we shrink the interval (a, b) such that a and b are too close and get the the solution approximately. Such equations are solvable but there is not any immediate method from which we get solution. It is not the case always, like equation sin x = x has one root x = 0 by observation. However we r not lucky always. In the engineering mathematics we will have numerical analysis to solve such equations. The methods will be Newton-Raphson method, Runge-Kutta method etc.
