If I'm bringing bare metal and one or more fixed IP addresses to the table the staking amounts need to be much lower, like 100 FLUX or less for a Nimbus node. I have a very, very modest homelab Proxmox high availability cluster with plenty of spare resources and bandwidth to host 2 or 3 Nimbus nodes. I just can't see buying 15000 FLUX for each node for such crappy rewards and basically buying myself a job to maintain uptime.
@coolrunnings39492 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think it's a good move on Flux team. Making it less appealing to run VPS nodes. Cuz if a VPS provider devices to shutdown support for flux then we are doomed.

I've made some calculations and it seems that if everyone that has a node will still run nodes, the overall reduction in rewards will be around 3 times. But probably many people will stop providing nodes all together just from the vps cost. And bumping the specs may be a hint that the flux team expects this as well. Will be interesting to see where the balance will be.
@z28fun2 жыл бұрын
Wow this was a buzz kill, but glad you explained it! I thought even though the requirements were being halved the rewards wouldn’t change much. If it goes to making $23-$50 a month (if flux doubles to $3), it’s really not worth it to get into this project. My ROI would be over 12 months, plus the labor I have to put into the project to keep my nodes updated is a lot higher then running an asic miner or any other project!
@Famo86102 жыл бұрын
It is not an ROI, because you only stake your flux, you don’t invest it and never see it back. So you should consider that the 1,000 or more flux that you may use for the nodes is yours to keep, you don’t burn your flux to create a node, so when you want to cash out you take out your 1,000 flux staked plus your earnings
@SubjectiveFunny2 жыл бұрын
Was thinking the exact same thing. Much, much lower than what I was expecting, and I was not expecting much.. Pretty bummed out on this one..
@z28fun2 жыл бұрын
@@SubjectiveFunny completely agree! Hard to believe GPU miners will earn more then node operators! GPU’s can’t run apps, they will just validate transactions! The node operators give you the ability to compete with azure, aws, ibm, etc! We also have to do more work on a monthly bases keeping our nodes secure (patching monthly), online, and updated (flux app). My gpu miner I just had to build it, join it to the pool, and make sure it has power…that’s it!

hi am new to the space . it seems kinda crazy to actually run a Flux node , the rewards are really not that great considering that the investment is pretty heavy. if your making about $23 of flux a month wouldn't it be better to just buy that amount every month or maybe every week . just saying . The video was amazing very helpful and easy to understand, thank you

I think you need to start looking at it from the amount of coins you get, not the current market price. Zoom out and think longterm
@Jefke2 жыл бұрын
Hey Modo Tech, bit of a correction! There is 720 blocks a day, and if there is for instance only 720 nodes for one tier online. that would mean they get 1 reward! a day, as the reward payout is round robin. See the rank your node has in the zelcore wallet. It's not split over the entire chain per reward....
@Jefke2 жыл бұрын
so if there is 1440 nodes online, you get a reward per 2 days... 7200 nodes.. 10 days etc etc
@ModernDogos2 жыл бұрын
@@Jefke I'm aware of that nodes have to be in line to receive rewards. we are talking about the overall averaging down rewards. Which is what the FluxOS chart is calculated off
@ModernDogos2 жыл бұрын
@@Jefke for example, I'm getting 9+flux for my nimbus node when it is my turn but on FluxOS nimbus it says 7.70 FLUX a day. You are right on the how the reward is distributed. I'm also right on the average daily rewards.
@Jefke2 жыл бұрын
@@ModernDogos @2:08 you stat that the 30% is shared over 3 nodes, that is not correct, each always gets the 30% for the reward, when they are paid, not split as you stated. I'm in the flux discord if you want clarification ;) Good video otherwise!
@hyperopicmyopia16312 жыл бұрын
@@Jefke @Jefke thanks for this info. So is it true, for example, if the stake requirement is changed from 10000 Flux to 1000 Flux, the reward will also be decreased from 50 Flux per month to 5 Flux per month?
@dc19482 жыл бұрын
I found the cheapest VPS requirements for Cumulus node for 11 $ per month with investment for 1 node (1000 flux). From March rewards of 10 Cumulus nodes right now is 256$ per month instead of 1 node. So 10 X 11 $ of VPS = 110 $ . So you will make 146 $ if you have 10 nodes, 14,6$ for 1 node right now...we have to consider dropping rewards as well.. so not super wow here ..but project is really cool otherwise. Maybe they can consider doing a pool so we can avoid VPS for small and less technical investors and reward more who run the node ...just the thought.
