Have a hand wash program and woolwash program in mymschiene delicate prices I put in a net. Use the right washing liquid for wool . Than I air-dry them. Nothing broken or dirty after season in the closet. Dirt calls bugs in. Wool can be wrapped in a dense net or bedcover to keep moth out. So it is easy to keep it for 20 years. No bedroom smell in the room.

This was so helpful! I have had MAJOR decluttering regret that still haunts me. When you talked about using the time to care for clothing as a way to meditate, that blew my mind! What an amazing way to shift your mindset! 💛 Edit: also, your video showed up in my recommendations and when I saw that colorful closet thumbnail, I clicked so fast! I love seeing all that color and pattern instead of harsh, sterile neutrals, and your style is phenomenal! I am a hat lover as well. 😍

Awww I love hearing all of this. Thank you for letting me know what you like to see! I use most of my "chores" time as a time to meditate or think -- a welcome change from all of the screen time. Hehe!

Vapour machine really changed what I wear. Standard iron was taking so much space, ruined my clothes sometimes and was no good for wool, silk or other delicate fabrics. I highly recommend vapour machine. Also there’s a difference between high quality silk and cheaper versions. High quality silk shirts get their original shape immediately as I vapour them, they barely need any work, amazing.

OMG, what an incredibly helpful video! Every day I regret donating my black suede Penny Lane coat. If I’d only learned how to maintain her, I’d never have gotten rid of her. Now, when I find one exactly like her, the price runs into the thousands!

Awww…I know how you feel! I think most of us have to learn the hard way. I can’t even admit what I’ve gotten rid of in my youthful inexperience. 🫣 Lol! But now we know better, and we can share our wisdom!

Over the course of about 2yrs I completely decluttered my wardrobe, mostly from items that don’t fit my style. I recently remove a good chunk of items that are too worn to be fully work appropriate. My plan is to replace them as I can then pull the old items out as casual/don’t mind getting dirty clothes. I was surprised to discover my closet is no longer semi-minimal but almost a true capsule. I seriously need to replace my old tops lol.

This sounds like what I did, too! Just a few years ago, I started on my higher quality clothing "journey", and of course I couldn't just toss everything at once. I decluttered slowly, learned along the way, and have maintained buying only higher quality clothes that last. I wish you all the best as you learn, grow, and create your style! 🤗

Really helpful tips - maintaining is the top one for me. I have several hand-knit sweaters (love to knit) and keeping them looking great means hand washing and laying flat to dry (as well as de-pilling). Also handbags, boots and shoes get a once a year clean-up as well after their seasons. Has saved me time and money and gives me the confidence to know my clothing & accessories are in good shape and ready to go. thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and time.

That's wonderful that you knit. Let me ask you something: what material is the yarn you use? I have a problem with polyester yarn -- it's not breathable, and I end up sweating )even in the winter) -- but I wonder if it's because of the quality/mass manufacturing or what. I'd love to hear your take on it. 🙏

@@PriskaJordan \hello Priska - I would say the most widely used yarns are acrylic fibers due in part to their low cost compared to wool, wool blends, silks, etc. As you probably know, all companies cater to the mainstream and if the acrylic yarns sell better than the wool or specialty yarns, it makes good business sense to be merchandising the best sellers. I find that while the acrylic yarns have a bigger selection of colours and pattern variety, the natural fibers (and especially wool, silk blends, or bamboo, etc) are the best to work with (great hand-feel) and are more comfortable to wear (they breathe!). As a new knitter many, many years ago, I purchased lots of acrylic yarn for my projects - mostly because I wasn't very proficient at knitting back then. (yes there were a few abandoned projects!) Now of course, I prefer the natural fibers but have also knit for others who have purchased acrylic yarns for specific garments. One must be careful not to use an iron or heat on acrylics as it melts the fibers and ruins the stretch. Therefore no dryer heat but treat as you would a wool garment by laying flat to dry and blocked to the knitting pattern measurements. And thank you for your unexpected reply -- much success to you with your channel.!

This is soooo wonderfully helpful. Thank you for explaining that to me! I'm not too familiar with knitted pieces like sweaters, since I've mostly lived in warm/hot climates. But the past few years, I've started migrating toward cashmere sweaters, and they've been such an upgrade from what I remember as a kid in acrylic/polyester sweaters that were itchy and not breathable. It makes a lot of sense that wool yarn would be more comfortable to work with, since it's lovely to wear. Thanks, Diane! I appreciate your perspective. 🤗

I clean my woolens at the end of the season so there is nothing hiding in the fibers that can feed insects.

It depends on the fibers. She only talked about woolen items (wool, cashmere, merino, angora, alpaca....). Wool has literally self-cleaning properties so those items can just be aired out over night if they smell a little and are good to go the next morning. :-)

I air dry 90% of my clothes. What do you think is in that lint catcher? I def believe the dryer wears out clothing quickly. My workout stuff and pjs, thrifted tshirts. Those items get put into dryer.

Oh my gosh I really enjoyed your video once again! ❤ I'm so into sewing and doing little adjustments to my clothes or my sheets even if you have to adjust something else with your clothes I would love to see a compilation video in the future and maybe get inspired or learn something new! 😊 Although I generally give my clothes to the tailor most of the time

That's good to know you'd be interested in that. I just sewed a broken hem on a hand towel, and it's good as new! I make a small repair almost every week, so I'll have to save up some footage for that in the future. 😉
