Wonderful discussion! You're able to convey information while staying cool and level headed. That's kinda rare nowadays. It's also awesome that you explore uncommon material to bonsai. Another trait rarely seen amongst the professionals. Thanx y'all!!!

Awesome american plum, I also agree that's probably the most spectacular one I've ever seen. Ryan the beard really suits you hope we see more of that rough rugged look, don't worry it gets much softer with some time.

I think this is the coolest tree I've ever seen. I can only imagine how spectacular it will be once it's flowered.

Incredible video. Two questions, not sure how to spell it but sheen based means essentially big root based? Also do I NEED to wait to air layer acer circinatum until after the first leafs harden off? Still in bud swell stage 3 ish now and itching to practice

Not sure, but I think the sheen is the opposite - very fine, mesh like roots. Correct me if I'm wrong. Great video, awesome tree.

What sheen base deciduous mean?
@lukeselvon
@lukeselvon Жыл бұрын
its the area of root zone directly under the trunk. its the hardest to develop but the place that when filled with roots, will maximise the development of the tree beacuse the pots capacity will be fully used.

@@lukeselvondoes it means this type of tree rely on taproots in nature? Since in pot it can’t develop a taproot. So it develops roots directly under trunk instead?

@@yazhousun406 I have heard him say in another video the sheen is the last place the roots go- first to the side walls, then the bottom, then the sheen. The sheen is the least desirable place because it is the wettest and coldest place in the pot, but roots will grow there once the other areas are filled, thus maximizing all the space in the pot with root growth.

@@donovanhill329 Thanks for the info mate. A lot of bonsai growers tend to cut roots from bottom during root pruning. Isn’t it bad for the health of tree that are sheen based? I feel like this theory hasn’t been well known among bonsai people. But from the botany perspective, root pruning should be applied differently for different trees. Currently I think a lot of bonsai professionals just pruning based on same principles which is cutting all rooting facing down from bottom

What is a defining branch?
@lukeselvon
@lukeselvon Жыл бұрын
The branch that defines the style of the tree. Its the branch that when you look at it gives you the feels. All other branches are then styles to compliment that.

@@Bonsai.Treedom also it is not always, but most of the time, the first, and lowest, and thickest branch. Also, way the defining branch is styled is the style of all the other branches.
