Second Gen G19 with the backstrap filled and straightened, trigger guard bottom relieved to eliminate the bite on my strong hand middle finger and support hand index finger along with the front of the guard protrusion rounded off with Trijicon night sights and the slide catch "release" changed out for one with a "shelf" for positive manipulation. Stock trigger and replace the recoil spring every few thousand rounds. Ive had one stoppage ever and it was stove pipe with one very old obviously underpowered cartridge. I was running a course using assorted older ammo. Boom, pop, pow, bang, smoke, no smoke, lotta smoke. HB asked "Did you clean out your closet??" "Yessir!"

Very informative content as always! After spending some more time on the range I have settled with Federal American Eagle for training and Federal Premium HST as defensive ammo; both in 124 grains. I have seen that both keep pretty consistent trajectories and groupings at 20 yds out of my G45. I never considered firing out to 50 yds until now, so I have a new goal to strive for on my next visit to the range. May you always be successful in your endeavors!

Well-done. Thanks! One of my three Gen3 G22 pistols would lock open, with rounds still in the mag. It had never happened with 165-grain ammo, but when I needed a large amount of ammo, for a class, in early 2005, I had to settle for 180-grain ammo. Well, this G22 locked open, every so often, with the 180-grain ammo. Presumably, the problem was with the slide stop. This happened after I had transitioned to the SIG P229, to be my duty pistol, so, I did not do a thorough diagnostic on this G22, but advised its new owner of the issue. The P229 was a better fit, in my hands, and I could shoot a P229 noticeably more accurately. For this class, however, I did not yet have a concealment-type holster for the SIG, which is why I was still using a Glock, during the class. Fortunately, I had brought my SIG, and duty belt, to the class, so, after the several Glock malfunctions, I wore my duty rig to complete the day of training, with the P229. I am not proud of it, as it was not properly “safe” range behavior, but the first time the Glock malfunctioned, during that class, I dropped it into the dirt, and reflexively went for a pocketed Ruger SP101 revolver, to complete the course of fire. I had never drilled to drop a live handgun, to go for a second handgun, though I had drilled to reflexively drop a baton, to transition to a handgun, in the event that escalation of force became necessary. This class being run on the “hot range” concept, it was kosher for a second gun to be loaded. It is interesting how my brain put 2 + 2 together, telling my hands to let the locked-open Glock drop, rather than execute a tap-rack, because that hot SP101 was ready-to-go, in a pocket holster. During the rest of that class, after that teaching moment, I tap-racked to deal with the G22’s further stoppages. During the next significant break, I switched to my duty rig, to run with the P229. Gen4 Glocks fit me much better than Gen3, so, I did return to Glocks in 2015, after my then-chief OK’ed 9mm to again be a duty cartridge. By then, I wanted 9mm for its gentler recoil against my aging hands, plus the lower Glock bore axis, and less-stiff polymer frame. I call the Gen4 and Gen5 G17 my “orthopedic pistols.”

The old spring in the gen 3 and 4 Glocks for the slide stop was basically a bent paperclip. The gen 5 offering seems to be better (also more expensive).

Thanks for your insight. While watching your videos it caused me to take another look at subcompacts (vs micro compacts). The first thing I realized in my area is how hard it is to find a subcompact as the mircos are like IPA's in the beer section of the market, they took over everything. I found a CZ P10S which is just a tik bigger than the G26, and have really been enjoying my CCW/defense shooting training as of late, where I never really got into the micro pistol thing.

Basic concept, but effective: start with 6” +/- groups at 50 yards and make necessary adjustments from there (or until you get there). Almost “reverse engineering” vs. starting at 3, 5, or 7 yards and trying to punch out to 50. Good info.

My EDC is a G26 gen 3. Had it several years and very reliable. My department doesn’t want any extras on the gun other than what Glock provides. Run a G19 mag with XGrip. Sind the back strap isn’t an option on the gen 3, I have a Hogue beaver tail grip sleeve. Puts my finger on the trigger in just the right spot. Safariland ALS holster.

Excellent assessment! Over the years, I’ve found that the only internal aftermarket parts I’ve found that have been 100% reliable in Glocks were Wolff mag springs. I’ve only played with the GPT at stores, but am also used to the stock 5.5 and have been fine with it. And it’s worth noting Paul’s explanation regarding his training ammo performance. Only when one has mastered the gun can they then criticize the accuracy of the ammo.

Thank you for your feedback on the GPT. If you continue with GPT test, I look forward to updates on that. As for the GPT, I guess Glock is not providing much information nor have they advertised as not much more than a range use than for carry use. For now, my Glock trigger will remain stock.
@mjolnirdynamics87892 ай бұрын
Ben Stoeger didn't review the GPT very highly either. I've always run stock Glock, but I do prefer a flat shoe over the curved and I've placed flat shoes on all of mine. I just use the Vickers brand. Simple, easy, stupid. Good video this Saturday morning Paul! I love the new Gen 2 Talon Grips which are like a cross between the rubber and skateboard tape. Far better texture than the rubber grips but not as destructive to clothing and muffin tops as the sand grit type.

Idea with the performance trigger. If you have big meaty paws you could be inadvertently pushing the slide stop up either through direct contact or via the frame flexing.

Could be. When I changed both the trigger and slide stop, the problem stopped. It was one or the other. I also had a report from a state LE agency that had problems with the slide stops. That spring is not too significant.

In my experience, the best thing you can do for a Glock is learn to shoot it as the factory made it. The stock trigger sucks but that's what practice is for.

Glock 43x is so similar to the Taurus G2C it's nearly a clone. Released in 2013, the G2C did okay, but in 2019 it became the highest selling pistol in the US and was for the next 2 years, overwhelming glock sales entirely, including military contracts. And that's because it has smart features, was mid quality, and costs 1/2 to 1/3 as much as a standard current glock. The G3C is even better, has more features, and costs the same as the G2C did.

WOW! I don't feel so much like the EDC weirdo now. Can't say I perform the process just like you, but I pretty much do the same. Test mine with different ammo, play around with mags, sand/file a little here and there until it is comfortable. One question... why 50 yds instead of 25 yds?
@thecsatway36222 ай бұрын
Coy who works with me is planning on a Run & Gun in the future. Some poppers, head size are said to be at 50 yards. I wanted to see if I could tune up a G26 to make consistent hits at that distance. We have a small course set up for training. Also, 30 years ago plus, I had to qualify at 50 for the FBI Instructor course.

Paul why do you choose the 26 over something like the 19 or 17? Wont a 26 with a extended mag and grip create the same profile as a 19 in terms of grip and possible printing?
@Flack552 ай бұрын
He said he's running the short mag, so no. But I agree, a guy his size could easily conceal a G19, and therefore should IMO
@thecsatway36222 ай бұрын
The G26 has a shorter sight radius which I prefer. I would love to see Glock come out with at G19 bottom and G26 top, just like the old commander sized pistols. As for printing, I wear loose clothes and my J & M Kydex outside the waistband tucks in quite nicely. Sometimes I wear a G19 holster appendix for the length and comfort. If I were LE, I would likely carry a G19 if allowed to.
@glocksNgrippers2 ай бұрын
@@thecsatway3622glad to hear you say that! I've been wanting Glock to make a G26 slide with a G19 handle for some time now. I rotate between the G26 and the G19 when I carry. When I was in law enforcement I carried the G22 which was fine but I too wouldve rather carried a G19/G23 instead of the full sized pistol.

Hey Paul.. another Paul here. Just curious as to why you started out at 50 yards. Statistics tell us that a civilian in a self defense situation will almost always encounter a threat a lot closer in? Well I hope I don't come across as a Paul hater when I passionately disagree with him on occasion, but this is one of those times. IMO you threw a bunch of time, money, parts and T&E at a Glock to make it more like a factory Sig. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Glocks, but throwing "performance" parts at them is like putting lipstick on a pig- the pig don't want it! Glocks are like the AK of the pistol world, and we'd all haze someone doing a trigger job on an AK. If you want rugged reliability, low bore height, a "safer" trigger and late 20th century ergonomics, buy a factory Glock. If you want rugged reliability, revolver bore height, a "performance" trigger and 21st Century ergonomics (aka you don't have to dremel the gun to fit your meat-eaters without accidental actuation of mag/slide releases...) buy a factory Sig.
@thecsatway36222 ай бұрын
Ha! It was fun to be able to work on my pistol and experiment after taking an armorer's class a couple of decades ago. As for aftermarket, Wilson Combat makes the best lower I have felt for the 365, not Sig. The experiment was done for Coy, I and the viewers/readers. As for Sig, they are playing catch up. They have to hire ex-Army Generals to work for them to get their rifles into the system. I am not a Sig hater, I am just happy with what I am using. It is like having an old car you can work on without a computer.
@ishkabibble22042 ай бұрын
Sigs are solid guns at a good price point. But they ain't got no "performance" trigger from the factory. Unless you mean sig's ghost trigger, you know, the one that goes off by a ghost.
