Another important factor is that, in addition to removing or adding applications, as you mentioned in the presentation, what a user SEES when clicking on those links also changes. For example, as I watch the webinar in February 2017, the third list no longer looks like what is shown in the presentation. The first thing is the Google Assistant. Scrolling down the page, one eventually finds a different portrayal of the complete list shown.

Actually (and most importantly) Google makes money not by selling ads nearly as much as by mining and selling YOUR PRIVATE DATA. They track your phone and track your internet activity (not only through their site, but through other sites as well). Then they offer companies to TARGET their ads to you, using that data. In the next few years, they are also focusing on developing an A.I. interface to compete with Bard, which is Microsoft's A.I. program. Nothing in life is free.
