There is a bug that if for whatever reason Indonesia & Malaysia ceased to exist at the beginning of the game, other countries are still able to import goods from them, notably Japan. In fact, if you form the Thalassocracy as Indonesia and let the AI play Indonesia, they'll import goods from Malaysia despite the fact that Malaysia is no longer exist and their territories are Indonesian core now.
