Installing Maximum Motorsport Bolt Through Extended Tie Rod Ends and Solid Adjustable Steering Rack Mounts needed to correct tie rod / lower control arm geometry.

Informative video...well done. Curious, I know the variable height shim stack for bump kit is made of chromoly tube and zinc plated or similar, but could you tell me what the larger silver spacer is made of? Is it aluminum? Talking about the larger spacer on the bottom against rod end. Thanks

Thanks for the note. Maximum Motorsports advertises that these spacers are chromoly. It definitely none of them are aluminum. It is ferrous material as a magnet will stick to it.

The smaller bumpsteer spacers are 4130 which is heat treated. The large 1.44" OD spacer is mild steel. Because it has such a large OD, the stress on it is much lower, so we can use a lower yield strength material. The spacers are installed in the incorrect order. The large face of the 1.44" spacer needs to be against the bottom of the steering arm. The small spacers should be stacked against the bottom of the 1.44" spacer. If you use an angle finder to compare the angle of the tie rod to that of the FCA tube, you need to be things differently. The tie rod needs to be parallel to the virtual FCA, NOT to the FCA tube. You can't see the virtual FCA, because you can't see the pivot center location of the ball joint. Don't put the angle finder on the splined section of the inner tie rod. Put it on the bottom of the OD of the machined surface of the outer tie rod aluminum sleeve. In this case only, adjust the bumpsteer spacers so that the angle of the FCA is 2.5 degrees less than the angle of the tie rod. This means that the ball joint end of the FCA is going to be lower than the outer tie rod end.

Jack, thanks for watching the video and replying. It wasn't specifically noted in the directions where the smaller spacers were to go although it would make more sense that the lager diameter base of the 1.44" spacer would be against the steering arm (in the MM instructions it says to install just the 1.44" but nothing about the spacers until you bumpsteer). I'll correct that. Also, thanks for the notes on setting up the angle. As noted in my commentary, there is only really "word of mouth" on how to set these up without using a true bumpsteer measurement. That is almost always stated as "control arm and tie rod at the same angle". I hope that others can find this info in these comments. As always, your knowledge is greatly appreciated.

@@therankinfiles8956 I would read the link below. It explains a lot of the stuff going on with bumpsteer. www.maximummotorsports.com/Good-Handling-Is-Fun-Facts-Fiction-and-the-Myth-of-the-Mustang-Bumpsteer-Problem.aspx

Sorry, I do not. You can search Amazon. There are loads to choose from. I think I might have pick one up at Harbor Freight. I have a bunch of different ones now.

Are you happy with the bump steer kit? I'm just about ready to do it to my SN95.
