Maximum Overdrive has always been a favorite of mine ever since I was a kid. It does move at really good pace and manages to be undeniably entertaining during the entirety of it's runtime. The quirky characters coupled with great music and over the top sequences of violence make it a must watch for horror fans.

The fun times I remember staying up late to watch this movie on the USA network as a kid. They edited for language but left most of the blood and gore intact. I eventually talked my mom into letting me rent it on VHS, and I’m not ashamed to admit I also own the Blu-ray of Maximum Overdrive. I put it in the same category as Rocky Horror.

This is the best "bad" movie ever made. I love this flick. It's great goofy fun. It is disappointing to hear that those who made the film, most notably King himself, don't like it. I personally think that it works on a couple of different levels. First, as the goofy fun popcorn flick that it is. But you can take it seriously, if you can set aside the logical issues.

I don't know, there's quite a few that could vie for the honor lol. As to king not liking it, he's just being honest. He was coked out of his brain back then, and I give him props for laughing at himself. There's too many people these days that would do similar but try to claim people just didn't get their genius. It is bad. But it's also fun to watch. To me, mission accomplished. Edit: holy hell. There is someone else on this planet that's seen phantom of the park? I thought I was the only one. 😂

I’m a big fan of this movie and have watched it many times over the years. Yes, it’s cheesy in some regards but still manages to have some genuine scare factor. Being that it was released in 1986 when I was a senior in high school might have something to do with it. Kind of nostalgic when I watch it. The 1980s was an awesome decade to be a teenager in! Glad this movie was a part of it.

Such a silly concept, but that was part of my enjoyment since I don't think I could ever take the whole 'comet makes machines come to life' seriously as a dark/grim horror film. To me, it felt in the same horror/comedy vein as Gremlins in a lot of ways.

Honestly, is this movie really that ‘goofy’??? I suppose it has a fair share of silly moments but a kid gets run over by a steamroller, the lead kids dad dies and is left an orphan, and the scene of the kid driving through the neighborhood where everyone is dead is pretty effective too. I always thought there was enough genuine dread to make this more than just another goofy horror movie.

This is an amazing movie an a great look at Stephen Kings more scifi works. Amazing cameo of the ACDC van an just an iconic movie that would look horrible if done today due to CGI. You can find this storie an more in a collection called Night Shift. Features "Graveyard Shift" an "Jerusalem Lot" which I cant rember completely but beileve to be a precursor story to Salem's Lot. Have to read it again now I'm curious

Loved this movie since I first saw it as a kid, never understood the hate at all. Some people I really think forget the most important aspect of a movie and that is does it entertain. And this movie sets that entertaining tone and tells you all about how the movie will play out the moment the ATM calls King an Asshole. If after that you are trying to scrutinize every little thing and take it as a serious film instead of the pure turn off the brain popcorn and beer flick it is, then maybe it is you and not the movie. And to top it all off the soundtrack by AC/DC is great as well, Who Made Who is an incredibly underrated song in my opinion.

Great information. I was very curious about this movie. Directors say, "Most important is story and casting." But there is one more important. 'Choice of subject'. Once King chose 'trucks attack cafe', even starring Bruce Willis & written by Rod Serling, he would have ended up with 'trucks attack cafe'.

This movie truly is a smoking dumpster fire that's just been smashed into by a 100mph train wreck! The plot is ridiculous, the acting is awful, the dialogue is cheesy, its riddled with plot holes and continuity errors, the pacing is all over the place and if the characters aren't just downright unlikeable, they're annoying as hell. Still, at least it's got a great soundtrack. So why do I love it? Why have I watched it more times than I can renember? Why is it just so much damned fun? It's the undisputed king of movies that are so bad, they're good.

Sucks a lot of the gore was taken out like the big splash of blood on the steamroller. Nothing of the deleted scenes could be found for the Blu-Ray according to the guy who did the features for it. They did find some behind the scenes footage of them checking out the bus with the plane in it. But not the scene itself. The head owned by Tim Shockey he had restored and been at conventions. Also, the head used in the trailer was the backup head. But it's rotting away in storage. There is a video here on KZbin a guy has the military Mule from the film. The gun & other parts were not with it, but it had the motor for the gun turning. Just saw on Facebook on image of the tow truck running over a Dixie Boy sign today. Also, someone notice a car behind Deke just before the Ice Cream truck in a picture. Maybe they had a car sneak up behind him or something and decided not to they guessed. Also the machine gun boat chasing them idea would have been neat to see.
