After I switched to bismuth I started using my leftover steel shells for swatting. When it came time to use up the BB shot, i’d always end up dumping a magazine at a downed bird to hit it once, range didnt seem to matter.
@TheNewHuntersGuide

Yea, that seems to be the case. Birds on the water are much smaller targets. And then when you do it, the damage can be too much.

@@TheNewHuntersGuide more velocity equals more force or energy in foot pounds at long range. I. 1 1/8 3 inch shells pattern better than 1 1/4 ounce 3 inch shells at equal velocity because they have less pressure. 1 3/8 once 3 1/2 inch shells powder and very well at 1550 because the pressure is not excessive on the long case.

my best concept so far is to make an analogy to football using a whiteboard x and o type concept . I’m not talented enough to do anything too fancy like cartoons etc . This isn’t a topic that people want to be educated about so it has to be entertaining and beneficial to know, something you’re good at. If you’d like to talk more about it let me know how to get ahold of you. Good luck 👍

Those particular shells worked so much better for me than the boss shells. It was hands down a major improvement. So much so I got about $500 worth of boss shells just sitting around now, and bought a ton of the Kent.

@nebraskaman8247 11 ай бұрын
I was using boss 3/5 shot, and 2 Kent. Even though they say with the bismuth you can us a larger shot, the performance was very sub par. Was using multiple shells on game, and still they wouldn’t go down permanently. Where we hunted there was a very high volume of waterfowl, so I got to see the performance on target very quickly. I’m not sure if the shot was breaking up on impact like bismuth can do or not. Those kent shells are legit tho, and I highly recommend them.
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide 11 ай бұрын
I don't work for BOSS but I can tell you that #3/5 bismuth hits more like Steel #2. BB shot is going to hit much harder. Kent #2 or any bismuth #2 is going to perform more like BB shot. The 3/5 or #4s aren't magic, they are what they are. But if you want 5.5" of penetration at 40 yards, you need to size up your bismuth. @@nebraskaman8247

Steel 4s max out at about 40-45 yards. Pattern aside, their ballistic energy isn't enough to do much past that for birds larger than teal.

@@nasserkuzbari2205 For me, nothing smaller than #2 has enough pellets in it to provide sufficient pattern density. If I needed more powerful for something, I'd switch to bismuth. Great video. This year, by fluke, I shot a duck at 60 yards using 3.5” “T” shot. If you step out 60 yards…that is FAR. In all honesty, I wouldn’t suggest shooting at anything past 40 yards. If you cut open a steel shotshell, just lift the pellets in your hand. They feel like little ping pong balls. I don’t know what steel alloy they use, but it is the lightest steel I’ve lifted (kinda feels like aluminum it’s so light). It’s too bad that plain steel is the only shot that’s affordable for most hunters.

What is the length of the barrel?
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide 11 ай бұрын
I agree, limiting shots to closer range is best for the hunter and the birds. T shot doesn't have many pellets in the shell to give alot of margin on the pattern. I would probably use #3 or #2 for longer range steel applications. Better to plan for a sure pattern than a lucky large pellet hit.

The 60 yd pattern is proof that in order to get an accurate idea of the pattern performance you must make multiple shots ( 3 to 5 minimum preferably 10) just like you do when you're zeroing a rifle. There is too much variably in firearm ammunition to trust one shot.

Manufacture shot shell inconsistency 1 out of four. I pattern test a lot and i find this about average. I do not shoot an average of 3 to 5 shots at the same bird. I have found that kent shells have the most shot to shot variation. Some times you will find a whole lot# that is bad. I had two boxes of hevi-xii labled as #6 that patterned bad. A disection revealed the shells in that lot # were actually # 4 shot. Hevi-shot refunded my purchase. I tested some Federal 20 gauge lead turkey loads with the new flight control wad and all the shot did not leave the wad. I test 3 shells from 3 different lot numbers that did the same. I contacted Federal about the issue and Federal ignored me. So, if you ever wonder how could i have missed that shot, it could be shot shell variance.
