I got a blackfire to carry at work and I will say it's doing the job fantastically, and it's not even that big feeling in my pocket, I thought it'd be terribly huge feeling. I will say I have somewhat pinched myself with the handles from time to time so be careful there.

This is nothing personal. It's just a comment about something that has always bothered me. Gas that is $3.99 9/10 per gallon is NOT $3.00 gas; it's not even $3.99 gas. It's $4.00 gas. By the same token, a tool that costs $27.95 or $27.99 is not a $27 tool. It is a $28.00 tool. I wish companies, whether they be wholesale or retail, would quit thinking their customers are too stupid to realize this. The first company that starts charging $4.00 0/10 for gas gets my business. In this context, if one company charges $27.95 or $27.99 for this too, and a second company charges $28.00, the second company gets my business.

Well, I do agree that specialist tools - and therefore, specialized multitools - are superior to generalist ones. As far as the LM Crunch is concerned (which was brought to my attention by that video of yours that it was to be discontinued, picked one up for € 100,-, thanks!), it does a great job: the grip pliers function well as normal pliers and give the additional functionality to lock. But in general (pun intended) it’s the job of a multitool to be general, for it is a backup or a tool for unexpected, special situations! If I know to go somewhere to fix or build something, I‘ll always take my specialized tools with me, because no MT will ever even come close to a Knipex pliers or a Wera driver or a file from Pferd (in the US: what Nicholson used to be, but they’re even better). So I carry a Victorinox Spirit S as an EDC, together with a LM Style PS and usually a medium folder.

Hate that I’m just now seeing this but I feel the same way. Specialized tools for specific reasons make the purchase digestible.

What is the blade steel? Unfortunately, most multi-tools cheap out on blade steel. Even with Leatherman, most of their models use 420HC. In 2021, 420HC is straight-up unacceptable in something that costs $100! Many of the cheaper tools seem to be running worse steels like 3Cr13. Despite also feeling obsolete in 2021, even 8Cr13Mov would feel like a huge upgrade.

I'm with you on the bottle opener but the same goes to the shit tier blades and saws since I'm always carry one or two knives the least thing I need as extra weight is a $1 blade and a $0.5 saw. My dream general purpose edc multi tool would only have the plier, lockable bit driver, usable scissors, prybar, file and a folding rule...

Yeah whats the deal with the bottle opener shit. Is it some sort of life style thing ipa and canned masculinity? Like just use a ligther or whatever. And like whats the point of a multi tool if you need a spezialized tool for lifting a cap. But whatever, if it where just on the multi tool ok no big deal but they stick cap lifter on everything "edc" or "practical" or "manly item" and i dont know just seam like a wierd trend i guess. Really dont get it
