He looks and sounds demoralised, jaded, lacking in confidence, full of empty cliched phrases and answers (granted most of the questions were completely uninspiring). If he was cool, think about the word, he wouldn't fallen into the hectic, irrational, grimy, sweaty world of drug taking.

Phil used to come around to my mum's house when she was younger. My grandad was quite a famous singer in Ireland and Phil used to come over so my Grandad could teach him how to write music. This was before Lizzy started. My Nana used to say Phil would be in the front room smoking his "funny smelling cigarettes" haha. It always broke my Grandad's heart, what happened to Phil. He always spoke of him fondly.

Gawain Davies this is just heartbreaking. He clearly had pneumonia here, heroin does some really serious lung damage anyway. You can kind of see here that he knows in his head he’s not up to it, but his heart and spirit are still full of hope, he certainly didn’t want to be dying anytime soon. It’s just a shame that someone didn’t drag him off to a hospital right then and there and pump him full of antibiotics..they might have saved him, but maybe not. His body was clearly failing him here, so perhaps it was too late already and the damage was done.

The human body is to be taken care of. And then sometimes things go wrong even if one takes care of themselves. In any event, 36 is way too young to die. By all rights he should be alive today in 2022. He had so many plans that sadly would never happen. Phil had three children, a son now 54 and two daughters now 43 & 42. The son did not know Phil was his father until later on as he was put up for adoption. I hope they are doing ok.

+FreedomZealot Same. Heroin is such an evil drug. It's taken Phil, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana and countless other wonderful singers and musicians. It's a shame. I love Thin Lizzy and I was born in 1994. I still don't understand why they didn't make it bigger in the States. They were on the same level of Rainbow, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, KISS, but they had a different, unique sound and it's just one of rocks' unknowns.

A movie about his life would be great. A thorn in the side of the catholic church. One of only a handful of biracial children in Ireland at the time. How the church wanted to give him away as a baby but his mother fought them. Going on to be The Rocker. If I had the money I´d produce it myself.

Oh right, is that what makes you like Phil Lynott, the fact that he is a halfcast? I'd want to see a film about Phil Lynott's love of music and becoming a rockstar and his downfall with his addiction. I've heard enough about racism I'm getting sick and tired of people talking about it. For people who hate racism and don't see colour, I notice alot of people in Ireland like to suck up to black people. People are so full of shit.

I grew up in Springfield Missouri and was age 8 in 1976 when Boys Are Back came out. My mom had killer taste in music and took me to see 3 Dog Night when I was 9 ( my dad wouldnt go ) and her friends were all the band members of Ozark Mtn Daredevils whom she grew up with in S.M. so we always had great rock playing in the MG convertible on 8 track or the house stereo. 1976 was a great time to be in your 30s with this type of music culture. Even I in the center of rural Midwest kids my age knew who this band was and all the radios played this nonstop. Loved this song. What we would call: Real Rock. So sorry to learn he passed so soon after this interview and never maybe knew how huge he really was, so humble and down to earth as evident in this video. Aloha Phil Lynott.

I’ve seen this clip a few times and it always depresses me 😔. In most of his other interviews & performances he’s so smooth and confident. Here, he looks shaken, not well and on the defensive. It’s like he knows he has to do the interview but he just wants to go back to his hotel room. He’s trying to be positive but you can tell he doesn’t feel great about his upcoming projects. Interviewer keeps asking him for details he doesn’t have nailed down. I’ve seen that look from other people before and it usually appears after life kicks your ass for a few years. It’s too bad he couldn’t have turned the corner on his addiction and had a career renaissance. RIP.

I was in Temple Lane Studios the other day, which is like a shrine to Phil, and held a pair of leather trousers that he wore on stage numerous times.
