Maybe we should put the question the other way around: Would Maxpax crush other players if he plays Terran or Zerg ? I am not a player so I have no idea which race needs more MaMicro in general but Protoss isn't the most fav race when it comes to balance. Obviously, this is my opinion as I watch the games.

Also I’m wondering if Protoss should have some of their tools back? Maybe corrosive bile can no longer break force fields, or there is a twilight council upgrade called “Buffered Field Projector” that makes force fields immune to corrosive biles. Maybe extended thermal lance also makes the colossus not absolutely useless vs non light units. Maybe there can be an upgrade that gives immortals their hardened shields back

Protoss Players: Protoss is weaker than all the other races! Reality: Reynor plays Protoss at 600 APM while MaxPax plays at 400 APM, and completely wings all of his builds. If he spent all of his time on Protoss, he would be the best. Feedbacking spell-casters, microing disrupter shots, warp-prism micro, stalker micro, are all very APM intensive. If MaxPax all of a sudden discovered an extra 200 APM, and brought a little more variety that Hero has, he would be unstoppable.

RE balance: no Lowko, the core issue is that Protoss have been overnerfed. There are buffs needed or nerfs to terran and zerg. It's as simple as that. No other race was ever allowed to have a losing statistic for such a long time. But somehow it's fine when Protoss can't win a major tourney in like forever.

For the probability of winning a best-of-7 match to be 90%, then the probability of winning that same matchup in a best-of-3 would need to be 81.0% (with a 72.1% win rate in every game). That is, of course, assuming independence between successive outcomes, 0% drawing chance, and a fixed probability of winning every game. Nobody wanted this, but I loved doing it :)

That last game was kinda weird. I don't understand why some Protos players do this - they research Storm but wait until it's finished and then start warping in their first Templar. Imagine how much easier defending that attack would have been if he'd had even just 1 storm ready to go.

If you watch closer, when storm was almost finished, reynor used his overseer to cast Contaminate to delay storm right before the fight, game wouldve been much different if it werent for that

I think Protoss is so trick to balance due to the warp in mechanic. Gateway units can’t be too strong, otherwise Protoss would be able to materialize a great many powerful units wherever there is a power field. Part of what they did is make Protoss units expensive, and they also (recently in the lifespan of SC2) made it so that you only get the fast warp in if a gateway is connected to the power field. No more fast warp ins on a lone pylon. The problem I feel this makes is Protoss seems very fragile in the early game because zealots and stalkers are very expensive compared to marines, zerglings, hellions, and roaches. Truly idk what the solution is but I’m curious to see if the third race in stormgate will have a warp in mechanic or not I also wonder if we don’t see as many Protoss wins in tournaments because the greats happen to not play Protoss. In other words, Dark, Serral, Maru, Clem, etc aren’t outstanding players because they are Zerg or Terran, they are just outstanding players but they don’t play Protoss. Idk man. I do really like how my iPad automatically capitalizes Zerg, Terran, and Protoss though

Mandatory service "its not only military" is 1 year 6 months and a couple days. So if they arent back in almost 2 years, then they probably arent coming back.

No. They wouldn't be better with Protoss instead of Zerg. They love their Spellcasters. They win most of their games with those. And the "easily replacable" army that maxes fast and reinforces faster. If they lose 2 full bases within the 1st 10 minutes they almost always tap out. They can't throw away their army if they can't replace it fast. Limiting their creep and destroying a few bases is the fastest way to get them to quit. If they get 6-7 bases up and running then they know they can win. All they need to do is throw their army every which way at their opponent to do as much damage as possible, replace what is lost to do the same again, while they get their Spellcasters up and running to pick their opponent's army apart. You CAN'T do the same with either of the other races.

GOD I love MaxPax... I think its because hes the first Protoss plater that i feel plays the style i want to. The macro with a killer instinct, knowing when to assasinate someone.

Protoss seems to suffer the most after the power spike of warp gate, but before more advanced tech goes online. Perhaps some cheaper/slower building tech structures are all they need? It would be maybe 50-100 extra resources on the table for that weak point.

I’ll tell you the issue with Protoss. Balance seems fine at times, because you have a p v z match that the Protoss 2-0’s, and ends up looking like a god. That Protoss player didn’t make any mistakes that game, I promise you that. I’ve been playing since beta wol (and brood before that) and this is the first time I have taken a break because of balance, which started last year. Tried the new patch, and it barely helped. So, if you have a toss player who is on their game, toss looks strong. Protoss is a naked man with a glass sword. Terran and Zerg can make mistakes, lose units, and be fine. So when two players are at their very best, it’s fair. That rarely happens though, and when both players skip up even a little, Protoss loses.

I don't think protoss is very gimmicky compared to the other races. Think about the creative protoss players today. Astrea and herO. Think about the creative zergs. Dark, Meomaika and Bly. The creative terrans like Gumiho and Maru (though all terrans vary their builds and barracks placements often) I personally would use the term 'unstable', because standard protoss is just weaker than standard T and Z, at least weaker to cheeses and super susceptible to small variations in builds which are extremely easy to hide as terran, and easy to execute as zerg. In my experience in PvT for example, it seems that protoss cheese has a good chance vs terran cheeses or variations, though it depends on the matchup, but often simply sucks vs standard terran so we don't see it often whereas the terran variations, aggressive openings and cheeses are all quite strong vs standard protoss, and vs protoss aggression really just becomes coinflippy, like most cheese vs cheese games go.

It's getting harder every day to be an enthusiast of this game. There is clearly no parity of strength between the 3 races. Maybe there is between terran and zerg. We already watch the games knowing that the protoss will probably lose. I admire the protoss players; Playing knowing that your race is rubbish compared to others can't be easy. This explains a little why this game wasn't as successful as BW and is forgotten.

Creep tumors shouldn't be invisible unless there's a building nearby. Creep is too powerful defensively. The amount of Queens should be reduced to one per hatchery too. This would force the zerg into building more units, making it harder for them to control the entire map as often as they do. No doubt in my mind that zerg, at the top level, are currently too powerful. It's to the point that I don't even respect zerg wins. They're given everything. Even a supposedly bad unit like mutalisks is insanely powerful when it's Serral using them. Part of my believes that Maxpax has micro that is comparable to Serral, but he's gimped by protoss. They were nerfed so often, they're kinda pathetic.

One Queen per Hatch means Zerg loses every single game at Masters or higher. Creep only close to buildings mean Zergs would never make it into GM. You need to learn the absolute basics of the game & get to at least Masters with all races before making balance suggestions.

@@philh2932It's not just Serral. Most top-tier zergs are able to dominate games while playing extremely greedy, because it's very difficult to punish them. Meanwhile, if protoss or terrans make a mistake against them, it's over instantly.

Carrier is not the answer. Just forget it.. They turn it into a worthless pathetic ballon over the years. In fact, I was shocked to see protoss after a decade. Carriers may still be good on a 2x2 and so on.. but if you were able to build 10 carriers on a 1x1 then you would win anyway. By the way, would be fun to see HerO and Maxy in the same team in a 2x2 😂. They need to make this happen lol. See.. there is hard counters. Not ideal but even against hard counters you may try to fight it and even win or flee. BUT THERE IS NO ESCAPE AGAINST VIPERS! It's even worse than a hard counter. Free kill is not a hard counter, it just turns the game ugly. Balance this unit against protoss omg.

@@polca4love well, protoss seems to be the weakest race here, then maybe vipers could be nerfed a little bit at the abduction hability, in my point of view. I wonder if they could implement different levels of energy required for abduction, for example. Abduct a colossus costing more than abducting a stalker. Same for expansive big ships, should cost more energy than abducting a tank. I think vipers are OK vs terran. And at least the mothership should be imune, cmom! Colossus would be a slight more viable option again, since protoss have not much, and relying more in yolo or surprising styles to win. You wont be surprising Serral in a best of 7, I agreed.
