Maxpedition Proteus Versipack: Full Review

I love the Protius and I carry it every day using a rifle sling. Perfect for carrying my EDC. I just find the sling more comfortable than the belt-carry sling. A great bag!

I prefer the Sabercat over the Proteus... unfortunately they stopped making the Sabercat. Thanks for stopping by.

Sabercat is the all khaki colorway and the Proteus is the khaki/foliage colorway or khaki with foliage trim. That's why the color looks different. Sweet review. I think that pack will make a great car med kit.

I may go for one to replace the OCTA VERSIPACK. The OCTA versipack is a little hard to open and to see the inside while the pack on.

I do believe you can. I don't own a Glock so I can't check it for you but I'm 95% sure it'll fit.

Thanks. I am thinking of getting this pack to carry in the front while I have my full size Osprey Kestrel 48. This way I can reach right into the pack and grab my handgun. It is hard to carry a handgun concealed while wearing a full size backpack with a hip strap. Just did a vid doing a mock bug-out and that was one of my issues. Had to carry a small revolver in my pocket. Take care. Anthony.

The only issue with this that I see, is that the molly attachment points on the back should of been setup for attaching the pack to molly attachment points on a larger pack or vest. Maybe I'm not familiar enough with molly.

Also, the top opening. If the top opening where like the Sabercat, that'd be approaching perfection for my purposes. Also, I like the really heavy duty construction, and utility but don't like the tacticool... Would prefer non-tacticool colors, like neon orange. Or pink.

You can use MALICE clips to attach it to other MOLLE panels.

i can't use it. i do NOT like that small main compartment opening at all. that ruins it for me. if not for that, i might have had a personal use for it, but i also don't like waist-belt fanny-bags either. so, i would have no use for the belt-fanny-bag part of it. i only like Legacy tactical style stuff. i have no personal interest in the new Advanced Gear Research stuff. so, i don't know where Maxpedition is going with that, but i understand their marketing and incorporating CCW into it all. personally, if maxpedition made a tactical bag similar to this that was slightly wider with an easy access top into the main compartment that i could use as a purse instead of a lady's purse which would fit my Sig P229 securing it and concealing it with easy access to it they could name their price for it. so far, i've never seen anything like that and that is something i am currently looking for. if it is the newer AGR (non-tactical style) i'm NOT interested. if Maxpedition or any other company is reading this maybe they'll consider this and hopefully they won't do something stupid like making it pink. put a shoulder strap on it and twin grab handles, too. make it a bag that can be used for many tactical molley applications on all gear and not just a bag for a woman, but do NOT make it a waist belt fanny bag, either. positively make it CCW and easy access. it will sell and sell for many gear applications, too. thanks for the excellent review. i had never seen this bag before now and i thank you for the super-great review of it! i thumbed-it-up!

+Antonio Botello I'm not too familiar with the pack you mentioned but I can say this pack is great although it would be nice if it opened more. It's not a huge issue or a deal breaker but the opening could open a little more.
