A lot of boards these days are pretty tough when it comes to static, more concerned about grubbing around the front onto a capacitor or something small that can snap. I’m sure you’re fine! I’ve held them like that before too usually palm on the back plate of the cpu

Sir I have a question....doesn't discharging the pc do the work? Remove everything thats plugged in the pc, keyboard, mouse, video cable, and power cable....then click and hold the power button for 30 seconds....doesn't that remove the excess electric left?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech Жыл бұрын
The danger can still exist in static electricity that is generated in your body, any friction can slowly build up a charge (even your clothes rubbing against your skin)
@sadMousepad
@sadMousepad Жыл бұрын
@@MaxsTech okay so the solution to the static electricity thing is touching a metal part of the pc which is the case....I can just rest my forearm on the case and proceed with replacing any pc parts? And also another question....is it safe to discharge a pc everytime I do some replacements on the parts?

@MaxsTech

As long as it uses 3 prongs. The bottom prong connects to the ground your entire home electrical system uses, so you’re basically just connecting to that through the charger.

Hi, i just built my pc ON the outside of the anti static bag of the mobo, then placed it all excepto for the gpu, then when read all about potential damage, took everything out and placed mobo back onto its anti static bag, you think there will be any damage? What can I do
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 2 жыл бұрын
Have you powered it on? Whatever is done, is done. Most motherboards these days have decent anti static protection coatings already on them. Placing it back in the bag won’t undo anything if something happens but I doubt anything happened. I would just rebuild your PC, this time using the cardboard box as your surface and give it a power on and see.

@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech Жыл бұрын
Depending on the glove, it can still build up static electricity on the outside. Some though and likely the ones you see are usually nitrile gloves which don’t build up static as easy. I also like them just so I don’t get natural oils from my hands on components.

I have a question, can you hold the backside of the motherboard freely?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 2 жыл бұрын
Typically yea, as long as you’re grounded the board usually doesn’t have any components on the back like capacitors or anything that could more easily get broke. It can be kind of sharp sometimes since many of the solders poke through the back, but otherwise it’s pretty durable.

Hi! If my environment's humidity level is above 80%, what are the chances of doing damage to the motherboard? Assuming I am not grounded and my feet is on a stone floor
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech Жыл бұрын
At 80% it would be a huge reduction of a static charge building up, motherboards also have good protection coatings on them. While I’m sure there’s still some kind of chance, it would be very very low for you. If you want to be extra safe just touch your pc case of you walked away from the build (walking will be your primary way you build up static charge, especially on rugs/carpet)

What if I handled the Motherboard on the back whilst it’s still in its anti-static bag?
@MaxsTech
@MaxsTech 9 ай бұрын
If you never remove it from the bag you can still damage small components on the board, so just make sure to hold it from the back and you’ll be fine. Note, the inside of antistatic bags are designed to not build up static but the outsides still do, so don’t place the board on the bag when you remove it.
